Yeah, was wondering that part too..The_Gun wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 3:12 pmAn interesting, and quite exciting link for sure, but I'd be surprised if it were a permanent deal. Given he seems to be contracted at Brentford until 2025 and is reasonably highly rated, I would have thought they'd be asking for at least £1m.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 2:47 pmI think that he's more of an 8 (box to box type), not sure if he's decent or not - however its another relatively decent (semi-exciting signing) after CMG. Not the experienced midfield destroyer I was hoping for, but then again he may be a young midfield destroyer ?BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 2:42 pmWould he play 8 or 10? It appears to be a permanent signing not a loan.

Could it be a smilar deal to the Ashworth one if it's a credible rumour? A loan to buy.

Loan to buy (if we get promoted and have more money) seems more likely than a permanent right now.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 3:31 pmCould it be a smilar deal to the Ashworth one if it's a credible rumour? A loan to buy.

He's looked good when I've seen him but his only senior football is an injury hit spell in league two and half a season getting relegated. Not to knock him if he signs whether permanently it temporary, but they ain't getting seven figures for him!

Did he look a level above his MK Teammates?

Done deal. A loan.
Still a great signing. Put us in a great position to pick him up next summer with one year left on his deal, but for now it'll be a case of getting the best out of him over 46 games.

So is this the fabled midfield enforcer we've been wanting all summer?

He’s 22, has two years remaining on his deal and sounds to be pretty talented. Brentford aren’t exactly cash-strapped, so letting him go for peanuts wouldn’t make much sense.
Anyway, based on the snippets I’ve read these past few hours, he sounds like a good addition. Maybe a RWB in from one of the big Prem teams now and we’re looking good.

As a fall-back position signing it's excellent. We weren't looking to use the loan market until we saw if we could get something done permanently, it looks like we've decided it can't be and I find it hard to imagine a better loan for that role.
Now he's here we can all have a chat about the stuff he needs to work on and there's plenty there, but I'm delighted.
He's not what I'd call an enforcer, Sonic, no; though it depends on how you use the term. He will put loads of tackles in, but he's not a midfield hard man. What he will offer us is a way to beat the press in midfield. We lost in the play-offs because we got pressed to death, but Maghoma is nigh-on unpressable when he's on it. He will take on 3-4 players and beat them, he will pass through the lines and he can ping it over a defence to runners.
Like I say, plenty the coaching staff will critique and work on. Lovely signing, though.

Will Evatt view him & CMG as starters ?

Eventually I think they will be but for now? They'll be playing catch-up (downloading content) on how we play and how they're expected to fit in. I don't think fitness should be an issue as they'll have had full pre-seasons with their last clubs.

I can only guess there, mate; but my impression from having a very brief chat with him at Bamber Bridge (and looking at who we've signed) is that he wants tactical options.
I think they will play a huge amount of football, fitness allowing. However, IE will pick the side he thinks suits each specific opponent, rather than have a settled 11.
They fill voids in Evatt's options and offer a technical and athletic level above what we've had in central areas up until now.

Yes, but from a technical standpoint and not by just kicking folk.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 6:10 pmI shall consider my aspirations tempered!I think where I have in mind is when they're on a tight press, giving our MF sod all time, it feels like they've disappeared occasionally and it's a bit easy for then to get from back to front. Will he help there?
I think we've looked lost when pressed and the solution there is to able to play through the press, which he offers. He also won't let anyone just ran past him without making contact and hassling them. I think he'll win duels in the middle of the pitch and very few midfielders will be able to contain him going the other way.
I'd love a proper enforcer in midfield and I'd not write that off just yet. I think it might come in the form of an MJ Williams replacement, though. Someone who can operate in that back three and also offer steel in the midfield when needed. Obviously that's a guess, though.

I'm not looking for a Paul Ince, they'd never stay on the pitch - you can feel like you've just run into the side of a house and might not fancy it quite as much next go, without kicking.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 6:18 pmYes, but from a technical standpoint and not by just kicking folk.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 6:10 pmI shall consider my aspirations tempered!I think where I have in mind is when they're on a tight press, giving our MF sod all time, it feels like they've disappeared occasionally and it's a bit easy for then to get from back to front. The bits I’ve seen of Maghoma which are limited I will say, are he struck me as more a creative attacking sort than a ‘thou shall not pass’ type. But he can run and cover ground. I suspect it’s the closest we will get to someone who can do that up and down mobile ‘enforcer’ role but I don’t think he’s primarily there to destruct.
I get exactly what worthy wants and means. I always think that what we lack for an Evatt side is a Stuart Holden sort. Or Scott Parker sort. It’s less about some brick wall and more someone who is so good they can cover the ground and win the ball back constantly through their mobility and game know how. We had that to an extent with Lee but I have always felt we need an 8 who offers that. I don’t think that’s exactly Maghoma but maybe he’s as close as we can get. From what I know I do think that Baccus is exactly that sort of player.

Re: Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window
I thought so initially, but I'm less certain now.
I mean we're all just trying to read the room here, but I think there's possibly some space in there for John to move on, Ashworth to go to #2 LWB and a "MJ but an athlete" sort to show up.
As Evatt just said on the radio, he now has a full squad. We have two players for every position and different options all over the pitch. It's all about attitude and quality now. Can we replace Sadlier and John with more suitable, better players? If so, how does that work with the types we add in?
It sounds like Matheson will be announced tomorrow, but whether that's for the Bs or first team I have no idea. All IE said was "There will be some news on our media channels there tomorrow." He also framed it as "One or two bits of news in that area", so we can try and parse that too if we fancy.
If we shifted John and Sadlier what would you add to the squad?
