Joe Riley gone to Oxford

Quite a drop from Premier League debut to 4th division. Oh well.

Oxford - thats a bit of a drop in standard from premier league
I thought Dougie was meant to be "improving" our young players ?

I know Blackpool are in a mess - but surely he would have got championship experience there, rather than not much to gain at Oxford apart from more injuries

Any sustained spell of football has to be good for him at the moment, surely!

I guess they want him to get games and probably restore his confidence after being out with injuries so much. Freedman said he wanted some of those young players to go out on loan and play every week.

My guess is that now Riley has gone out, Threlkeld will be involved in the first team squad, which would be nice.

Yeah, hopefully it'll benefit all concerned; perhaps if he does well at Oxford, he can go to a League One club for the spring...

At the moment, I wouldn't send an errant dog to Blackpool – club's falling apart.

Flip side to that would be the high probability of getting game-time (I can't help but say that in an American accent) at a high level. Admittedly, one would also wonder whether getting tw*tted week-in week-out is conducive to developing young players. We'll see.

On another unrelated subject, I've just noticed that Matt Mills has been made vice capitaine. With the re-signings of Wheater and Ream, are we to read anything into this (like a change of position for Ream)? Or more time at fullback for Ream?

Sorry, I meant to add with the signing of Dervite at CH too. And the injury to Tieney.

Would have thought that Ream and Mills would start out in the centre, with McNaughton on the right and Moxey on the left.

Iles makes the points that Wheater is injured and Dervite "hasn't shown enough" (journalistic euphemism for "isn't very good").

More interesting (in so far as anything related to football/Wanderers is ever interesting) is who will play in the middle? Spearing, obviously. Davies, presuming he's fit. But then who? My money's on Top Summer Signing Liam Trotter, Creativity's Neil Danns and Extreme Paceman Liam Feeney. But I'm usually wrong.

Palace apparently only want 1 million for Murray.

What's the problem? We got 600k for Sordell.. Surely we can find the other 400k?

Get him bought before someone else does!

Has anyone seen this new centre back in action? Any good?

No idea. I thought the general consensus was that he was "good on the ball"?

Or was that assumption based on his foreignness.

Well according to Nixon we won't pay £1M for him. Which given age and everything else is probably fair enough.

However he also adds that any deals are down to Eddie to be signed off. So if Dougie does manage to pull off something decent we have to hope Eddie backs him up.

So in plain English we might sign him and we might not. Thank god that ones cleared up.

Fair enough my arse! How old was the moaning barstewared Beckford? He is similar in age. I know it's buy now pay later with him but the money would still have to be load at some point.

Beckford was essentially a free with clauses and add ons. I will bet we never end up paying close to 1M.

But Palace want 1M up front for a 30 year old just coming back from serious injury. We don't have that money without Eddie coughing it up. I can see why we feel that is a bit over the odds...

Obviously would be great to get Murray. But no way would we do that deal at that price when we could have gotten Juke for £1.5M which represents far better value all round.

Nope. I thought he was probably a single malt, twelve years old or thereabouts.

Journeyman striker bobbing around the lower leagues until it all clicked under Freedman and then Holloway as he scored a shit-ton of goals to get them into the play-offs. Did his knee in the semi and was out until the last 5-10 games of the season. If you remember the lad Zaha twisting Zat Knight's blood until he stuck a lazy leg out for him to fall over at the 'Bok two years ago, in the game that seemed to convince PG Freedman was the man once Coyle had been flirted, it were Murray he knocked in that pen.
