^^In that Evatt quote what does the ‘in that area’ refer to?
For me if John and Sads go I’d sign the best two wide players/wing backs we possibly could. Left foot and right foot. There is an argument for another attacking mid too and Ashworth to cover LWB as an option.

On the first one I am paraphrasing but I *think* that's the term he used. I thought he was referring to general comings and goings, but others may have interpreted it differently.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 7:14 pm^^In that Evatt quote what does the ‘in that area’ refer to?

I'd be fine with two top class wingbacks coming in. Players who can beat defenders and cause havoc.
The squad is in a position now where Evatt can put his identity on it. I really want that quality attacking addition down the right, but other than that it's personal taste now.

Might be being a bit slow on the two for every position, but I'm not quite sure who our second RWB is?

Currently Sadlier. An argument could be made that, if Matheson signs up, he could be 2nd choice - but I fancy that's a bit weaker than anyone would like.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 7:36 pmMight be being a bit slow on the two for every position, but I'm not quite sure who our second RWB is?

He's been playing RWB in preseason. I don't think he's Evatt's preferred option, but as things stand he's the option there when we want to play a winger against particular teams.

I sure as hell wouldn't want JDC injured for any length of time....not an indictment on Sads...GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 7:44 pmHe's been playing RWB in preseason. The lad is clearly a talent, but he's not up to the level I was hoping for.
An exceptional signing for the B Team and underwhelming for the current first team.
If he'd been signed as #2 RWB behind a top player I'd have been fine with that one, but as things stand I don't think Cogley is enough for #1 on that side. JDC is superb squad depth, but yeah...we need more. If you go from Wilson to Matheson you've downgraded.

Ghost, this is me plucking a name out of a ‘big 6’ academy with no suggestion of an actual link, but are you aware of a right back at Arsenal called Reuell Walters?
Arteta took him on their pre-season tour this summer, so he’s clearly highly thought of, but he’d be behind White, Tomiyasu and probably Norton-Cuffy in the pecking order, so game time would be limited/non-existent if he stuck around this season.
Based on his profile and his YouTube highlights he looks like a perfect Bradley replacement, and exactly what we need in the RWB role.
No idea what our relationship is with Arsenal, but if we’re somewhere they’d send players, I’d imagine this lad is on our radar.

I would be quite shocked if Matheson agreed to sign for the B team.

Walters in one of the most technically gifted young defenders in the country, but I think he's a centre back in our system. Could be wrong, but that's my own read of his skillset.The_Gun wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 7:49 pmGhost, this is me plucking a name out of a ‘big 6’ academy with no suggestion of an actual link, but are you aware of a right back at Arsenal called Reuell Walters?

I won't complain if he shows up, though.

Evatt seemed to suggest ‘one or two announcements’ on Mattheson tomorrow.
Could it be we sign him and he goes out somewhere on loan?

Maghoma is striking me as the backup option for N'lundulu going off those highlights.
That being said he's listed as a midfielder so its probably just a fast, tricky body in the middle of the park. Anyone aware of his ability to tackle, or is he just the ball progressor type?

He was in the top dozen tacklers in League Two when he was at Wimbledon. They played him shielding the back four and then carrying the ball forward.Mar wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 10:39 pmMaghoma is striking me as the backup option for N'lundulu going off those highlights.

He played a more advanced role at MK Dons and put in about 50% more tackles than Dempsey.
He will put his foot in.

Yeah I was getting a Dempsey vibe from the highlights reel. Good competition in midfield now - be interesting to see who starts Saturday - wonder what will happen for Thomason this season.

Lovely stuff. Sounds like we've got ball winners, runners and pass masters now.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 10:53 pmHe was in the top dozen tacklers in League Two when he was at Wimbledon. Listened to the radio interview on the way in to work – a slow march through molasses, and I'm not talking about the commute - but annoyingly didn't get to the Matheson quote. Maybe I can sneak a listen in a bit.
He did say he hopes/expects to get "one or two more" in, but quickly followed this by noting that it depends who's available, harder to get the quality of players we want (he either strongly implied or outright said Maghoma was wanted by Championship teams), mentioned January as another chance to hire.
He was also asked directly "What's goin' on wi' Declan John?" and trotted out the usual stuff about picking teams on what he sees, everyone having the chance to impress the manager, etc and so on.
