I believe Cahill to Chelsea in January is nailed on and has been since the summer. Good luck to him if he goes there, wish him all the best!

I don't believe we'll get £8 Million. Plus it was more a response to Jimbo's quote of "but if Chelsea pay more than 5M this window then I'm happy enough with that."

If it was nailed on in the summer, why didn't they just buy him in the summer?

Cos what we'll sell him for in just over a months time will be different to what we'd have sold him for in August!CrazyHorse wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:I believe Cahill to Chelsea in January is nailed on and has been since the summer. Good luck to him if he goes there, wish him all the best!

ahh - sorry! I'd be surprised if we get 8mill - but then if Spurs wave their wonga about - and chelsea get competive - and realise that Terry is fast becoming wank - then, stranger things have happened!boltonboris wrote:I don't believe we'll get £8 Million. Definitely a glass half empty approach there mate!boltonboris wrote:It irks though doesn't it.. We splashed out £5.5 Million on a fee, then we paid out an extra Million or so to remove the sell on clause to Villa. We've also spent approximately 4.5 - 5 Million in wages on him.
So roughly 11.5 Million quid to improve a footballer only to see him go for half of that despite him being better than when we signed him and him now being an international.
The glass half full approach is, we've had few better returns for players we've paid over 3M for (except maybe Anelka seeing as we took a profit and a good amount of goals).
We took Cahill on as a bit of a chancer in terms of potential, out of Villa reserves think it's been a pretty good marriage, we've both helped each other.
Bolton have helped put him the England squad and given him a passage to a big club by playing him every week, giving him oppotunities and touting him as the best centre back around at every opportunity.
He in kind has accepted those opportunities, played very well for BWFC for the most part, think it would be fair to say of all the players we've had in the squad in the past few years, he's been the one who has contributed most consistantly to keeping us in mid-table safefy for 3 seasons.
Might not sound like a great deal but when you consider our centre-back duos during that time without Cahill could have been a mixture of the likes of O'Brien/Meite, O'Brien/Shittu, O'Brien/Puygrenier, Knight/Wheater and a few others I'm probably forgetting then I'd say he's been pretty essential to us remaining a Premier League club.
Compare it to someone like Elmander who we spent around 12-15M on in fee/wages and we ended up with feck all in return either on the pitch or in a transfer fee. Or even someone like Steinsson, Taylor, Muamba all of whom we'll end up/have ended up taking a fair hit on without THAT much of a return on the field.
Definitely agree that it irks that we couldn't sell him 18 months ago when we'd have been looking at that 17m buy out clause but I'm not sure it wasn't for a lack of trying. For whatever reason, whether it's just that we're a relativley small club, or that managers/scouts aren't fancying him as a big money signing- maybe it's the stigma that he didn't make it at Villa, but we've struggled to flog him.
If we can at least break even transfer fee wise then I'd be happy. He's given us more than his fair share on the pitch.
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Arsenal offered 12 million straight cash in August and Bolton refused and now people are talking about getting half that in January. I know you guys will never admit this, but your chairman messed up big time and his childish behaviour on twitter has cost his club millions. I think Bolton will get 4-5 million for him and still go down, they are in the bottom 3 despite having him so far this season, and I remember how Cahill was going to keep you up hence why he’s worth 20 million lool

You offered us a Mars bar and even that was in installments. You tried to give the billy big bollocks approach thinking we'd bow down to you. We told you to feck off (quite rightly) and now you're stuck with that massive bumbling idiot at the back and you're coming on here being all bitter.
Now do one you c*nt

How do you know it was a straight £12m bid? Because arshole said so.Abs wrote:Arsenal offered 12 million straight cash in August and Bolton refused and now people are talking about getting half that in January. I will guess that it was more like an £8m flat rate rising to £10m depending on your league position and a further £2m depending on how you do in CL. Why would we want to deal in those terms.
How dare we not accept a bid from a team like Arsenal when you come knocking! Who the hell do we think we are. Tosser.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
It was 12 millions, been confirmed by trusted sources of the club. All Im going to say is lets see how much Bolton gets for him and if it was worth acting like that. Also Mertesacker has made 2-3 mistakes which cost us, rest of the time he's been great. Unlike Cahill who makes plenty of small mistakes each game. Well if it's come from trusted sources within the Arsenal heirarchy it must be true.Abs wrote:It was 12 millions, been confirmed by trusted sources of the club. Our Chairman is the most publicly quoted on the price and he says £6m. Given Arsenal couldn't be arsed to sue him to protect their "reputation", I'll stick with our version of events.
Now feck off.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
do you really think he'll go for less than 12 mill?
do you think the big billy bollocks clubs (not Arsenal)will wait or threaten to wait until summer and risk him having a successful Euro championship?
'arry won't feck around if he thinks Cahill is missing piece of jigsaw to keep arsenal out of 4th
