Signed last Thursday. As he'd not gad a preseason, & so not got used to losing yet, he'll be a couple of weeks till he's ready.Riviman wrote:Oh and what's happened to Pisano??
Blimey, we'd have ... on paper ... a decent defence. It's just such a shame we don't play on paper.
That would just leave us this year's Alf short of a proper squad.
On that note ... good to see Jamie Thomas get a squad number and be involved in things last week.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Surely a striker should be Lennon's remaining priority before the window closes next week ?, not saying there's owt wrong with this fella - but IMO we desperately need someone to score some goals ahead of another defender.Riviman wrote:http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/wa ... nder_deal/

Re: If carlsberg did transfer threads.....This would be it!
But if there's no striker out there that will improve the squad...? I'm sure Lennon knows that he needs a proper goalscorer. Finding one who'll play for half peanuts is impossible. The only strikers out there that would accept the sort of wages we can offer are the sort of strikers who would have the fans up in arms about why we're bothering to sign somebody so naff.Peter Thompson wrote:Surely a striker should be Lennon's remaining priority before the window closes next week ?, not saying there's owt wrong with this fella - but IMO we desperately need someone to score some goals ahead of another defender.Riviman wrote:http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/wa ... nder_deal/

Meanwhile, we need backup for the left-back position, having sold the bloke who used to fill that role. We've found a bloke who'll accept half peanuts to play there. Should we;
A) sign him, knowing that signing a striker for the same wage isn't feasible?
B) reject the left back, risking an season-ending injury to Dean Moxey in the sort of karmic retribution that the football gods seem to be delivering to us in huge quantities, in the vain and naive hope that Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka fancy coming out of retirement and playing for £10 a fortnight and a bag of chips every second month?

I think probably yes it should be, but we probably have a problem on that front...Peter Thompson wrote:Surely a striker should be Lennon's remaining priority before the window closes next week ?, not saying there's owt wrong with this fella - but IMO we desperately need someone to score some goals ahead of another defender.Riviman wrote:http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/wa ... nder_deal/

Folks listed as "strikers" on Club website....
Clough
Clayton
Madine
Heskey
Dobbie
Silva
Woolery
Eaves
Dear Eddie, I only have 8 Strikers - please could I get another?

He's still yet to sign a professional contract, though.bobo the clown wrote:Signed last Thursday. As he'd not gad a preseason, & so not got used to losing yet, he'll be a couple of weeks till he's ready.Riviman wrote:Oh and what's happened to Pisano??

Tom Eaves! How did that lad ever con a contract out of us. Why the hell has he not found a club more appropriate for his undoubted ability I do not know!

Hat-trick in a pre-season friendly and cost "pocket money" at the time...officer_dibble wrote:Tom Eaves! How did that lad ever con a contract out of us. Why the hell has he not found a club more appropriate for his undoubted ability I do not know!
Even if you discount Eaves & Woolery, and discount Silva and Clayton as "wide players", we're still paying 4 "strikers"

I'd expect Casado to be the last piece of business then look for a striker in the "emergency loan" window which opens next month.

We'll have scored so many goals by then that emergency loans won't be needed. Watch this space..jmjhb wrote:I'd expect Casado to be the last piece of business then look for a striker in the "emergency loan" window which opens next month.

^^ the next batch that come available are Prem players not given squad places due to number restrictions. They can be made available pretty cheaply as it keeps them.playing and they're being paid anyway.
Anyone any ideas ?

I always believe good teams are built from the back. We leaked buckets last season. No doubt to where we had to start re the rebuilding job. Lennon has done great here with his acquisitions. Can we afford a 20 goal striker. No, but we can stop leaking goals with what we now have and hope that Clough and Clayton and the midfield can between them score at least 1 a game playing off Madine/Heskey, and trust that the defence keeps it clean or limit the other side to no more than 1. The top striker becomes the priority next season. For now, sell or giveaway Eaves, replace him with a hot lower/non league striker and hope.

We sold him just after a Blackburn game at Eerie Ewood in 2009, now lets sign-him-up before one!![Pissed :pissed:](./images/smilies/Pissed.gif)

I'd certainly have him back, he would be an asset at Championship level and we need a leader (pointer !) on the pitchDr Hotdog wrote:http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34071865

However, I doubt that he'd come for the £3k - £4k a week wages that BWFC can afford....although saying that surely he's made enough money (£millions) in the game over the years to be able to take such a pay cut so that he can end his career at the club where he started at.
