I've not even seen the highlights of this one yet but SKD has been talking about Tevez diving today and he's on FiveLive tonight if anyone's interested.

Idan Tal? He was a midfielder!Prufrock wrote:We'll miss Cahill massively when he goes. He's a top player and you don't just sell top players and not miss them. Ricketts has done well there, but I don't remember us suddenly being AC Milan of the 90s, and we were worse at the back, just not as much as we thought we would be. I still want to see Ricketts Cahill, coz Knight is, frankly, shit, he is just not as shit as he was. As often. Silly money for Cahill I understand the club has to look at, but the idea we wont miss him much or even at all is proper mental IMO. Good on the ball=shit defender for some reason. He's in the same bracket as Tal, Gudni and Bruno that I have seen in a white shirt.

When compared to Cohen, he is.

Mavies looked good going forward, he doesn't seem as comfortable as Holden for me. Moreno is a great player to pull from the bench when needed. I thought we could have forced the ball down his side more when Kolarev got sent offEire_Trotter wrote:Great read.

Re: money bags v the trotters
First chance I have had to post here since the game, and I am guilty of not reading the rest of this thread. My view:
1.) We were deservedly beaten by a better team. They have spent 300 million on their team, we have spent about 30 million. It showed. Yaya Toure, Tevez, Kompany looked superb players.
2.) We played ok. We did well and had some luck to keep it competitive to the end. Unfortunately, though we got into some good positions, our final ball let us down, and we created few chances. We needed Holden for this game IMO, though Mavies made some good runs. Petrov was poor, and we could do with improving on Robinson and Ricketts at full back if we are to be serious top half contenders. Everyone else played pretty well.
Not a lot else to say. It was nice, and a testament to the feel good factor under OC that we filled the away end. They looked very good, and if Mancini kept a settled team with the majority of that team playing together week in, week out they would challenge for the title.

Re: money bags v the trotters
Didn't Big Sam say that he switched Nolan to a midfield player because he didn't see the point of having a player who could pass the ball so well at the back?Odd thing to say given Nolan wasn't really that great a passer of the ball.Prufrock wrote:According to some so is Cahillboltonboris wrote:Idan Tal? I could see Cahill being excellent in the space behind our midfield and infront of our defence. You know the big empty one that opposing players often find themselves running around in.
But you're right, why waste a player who is quick, can tackle ,is excellent running with the ball, has a great passing range and has a good eye for goal by putting him anywhere other than centre half when the defence is already proving so effective. It's a stupid idea.
He's not a midfield player and would look lost playing midfield in a 442 formation but in a different system playing infront of the defence, knowing there is cover behind him, I think he'd be exceptional.

He moved him forward because he couldn't head a ball and wasn't the best tackler. Not really centre half material is it?

Re: money bags v the trotters
Well, I finally got to watch the game on playback. My over all impression is that we played reasonably well, although our passing (short and long) seemed somewhat lacking in accuracy and decision making. At the front third of the field we seemed to be missing in the ideas department - or City had our measure, so I might be being unfair. What really p***** me off was the ease with which the men in pastel blue fell over when a Bolton man came near them. Are they made of rice paper? So many times they fluttered to the ground like wounded butterflies, arms like punctured wings, legs flailing like a caterpillar in retreat and, after a moment of contemplation, popping back to life like an insect from its chrysalis.
We probably deserved to lose, but the sheer arrogance of the City players, exhibited when approaching the referee was, to me, both ridiculous and comical. Perhaps in this case the two terms are synonymous.
I detest cheats.

Zabs---Vansaaaaant---Kolo----Kolarov

----------Davo-----Elmo
----Petrov-------------Blue Dragon---
-----------Mavis---------------------
-------------Young Fabrice-------
Robbo----Knight-------Cahill-----Ricketts
Their midfield three choked off the central channel, our wide mids tend to cut inside and were well nullified. Their front three were lightning quick and linking up well which kept our fullbacks from pushing up. Mavis is a clever passer but he doesn't have Holden's engine nor his telepathic understanding with Muamba. This may not have mattered given City were fielding a 4-3-0-3 with two midfield destroyers but we're a much better pressing and passing side with them both in together - they almost add an extra player in midfield and without Stu we were outnumbered and overrun.
