Seriously? I mean you think the conversation went something like this

"Hi Dougie, we've looked at what we need to achieve this year.

1) We need to ensure we're handily placed for FFP when it comes in

2) As a result, it doesn't matter if we don't get promoted, because this season we still have a huge wage bill compared to most teams"

I mean really? Can you see that conversation happening?

If so, you are one of Santa's Elves and Father Christmas is a generous boss. I claim my £5.
No. But that does necessarily equate to promotion being the absolute target.

I mean last year it was, they said as much and we failed to achieve it.

This year all the club have actually talked about is FFP, so I don't know.

And I can imagine a conversation of

PG "Dougie what do you need for a top 6 finish?"

DF "I need X,Y,Z new players signing and I think we can finish top 6"

PG "Well you can have X and Y but not Z because we're trying to prioritise cutting the year on year loss. So you'll have to muddle by with that".

I mean at the end of the day we aren't getting promoted. And I'd argue that has been the case since 6 or so games in. So if promotion was very high up on the target list, and Eddie/Phil believed we were capable of it and prioritised it, would they not have made a managerial change under those circumstances, as they did last year?

I don't know, just that I'm far from certain Eddie and Phil are expecting promotion. They could be, though if they still are I think they need a reality check.....

I don't mean it wasn't possible. Just that from 6 games in it was evident that it was unlikely the way we were going......

Different discussion though isn't it? Eddie could/can change whatever he wants., whenever he wants, if his targets aren't being met....

Do you know for definite what the targets are?

Do they include being w**k at home and near the relegation places?

Of course not. Neither does anyone else. That is what I'm saying. Only Eddie/Phil/the board knows for sure.

That'd be pretty pointless unless they've relayed the information to Dougie f'rinstance.

Well probably aye! Though I've usually been working to objectives and then there are those "hidden objectives" if you know what I mean.....

There you go then, you are speculating again.

I'm sure you agree though that if the goal was to get what we were spending down by so much then signing players is counter productive to that.

That is definitely one of the goals as Gartside has said so. I mean we have no choice either save a further £40M ish or face penalty next season.

As for signing players, I guess so although at the same time we still need to be able to put a team out on the field this season and next season.

Spending, like getting new players in narrows the gap.

We have brought in new players, whilst also getting rid of some.

Not bringing any players in would mean the gap is wider.

You are correct

It would cost less to run the club if we didn't have any players at all

What a cracking idea

Loving the red herrings here.

Spending has nowt to do with performances this season.

It did when Coyle was manager, though, didn't it

You didn't ever tire of explaining how he had reduced the wage bill to be bigger than only 8 teams in the Prem, while moving forward with his plan to slash our income
