Oh and another special mention to the clown in monkey corner who, loud as anything, shouted racist insults at our and their black lads. Big AND clever.

I think people are being less critical because we're 7th with 30 points and have played some brilliant stuff this season.Owen_Coyle wrote:I'm totally surprised anyone can take anything positive out of that game !!
Without going into specifics, we were unable to beat a VERY VERY POOR Wigan side, and any tactics that we had last night were woefully below par in my view.
Last night's performance was the culmination (and by far the worst) of about 5 or 6 matches were we are gradually going back to our old ways of playing (Gary Megson-esque for want of a better term!!)
I can't believe Coyle said on MOTD that we were "terrific", as the whole 98+ minutes reminded me of the Hull match last year. And to be honest if a Gary Megson team had served up that dross last night he would have, quite rightly, got crucified.
Lack of a fully fit squad is no excuse as the Wigan side last night are the poorest team I have seen at the Reebok in many a year.
No wonder only 18000 turned up to watch that rubbish as it was far from the new style of play that I thought we were turning to.
I was bitterly disappointed last night with the whole thing.
Yes we're going through a bad patch, but hey we've taken a point a game over the last 4. Thats not as bad a bad patch as we've had in the past.
And last night despite not playing well we still created enough chances to have won 3-0 comfortably on another night.
So I don't think its time to be chucking tickets away in frustration or being overly negative. We have a small squad and if we can boost it in key areas we can hopefully kick on again.
If not I'm sure they'll keep battling away and whilst probably top 6 or 7 might be a bit beyond us we should still hopefully have enough to finish comfortable mid table and who wouldn't have taken that at the start of the season?
And with a bit of luck even an FA cup run?
Re: Wiggin
Indeed. top 6 or 7 is ridiculous - any idea that slipping below 7th is some kind of failure or disaster is ludicrous. Coyle reiterated recently that he is just seeking to improve the team and there is a long way to go. top half at the end of the season - or comfortably mid-table - and we should all be very happy - along with a proper go at a cup.

Sadly, I think your are correct BWFC_I. But the bulk of those 30 points were earned with us finally starting to play football a bit and slowly getting away from the "boot up to Davies" and "constantly losing possesion too easily" syndrome.BWFC_Insane wrote:I think people are being less critical because we're 7th with 30 points and have played some brilliant stuff this season.Owen_Coyle wrote:I'm totally surprised anyone can take anything positive out of that game !!

But what I've seen in the last 5 or 6 games (and last night was by far the worst) tells me that maybe we are going back round the corner I thought we'd turned.
And the worrying thing is that we didn't need to be that good last night to beat a very weak Wigan side and 3 points should have been secured with ease.

Clearly we are struggling with a small squad and are a bit tired but we still play some very decent stuff even though we're not at anything like our best.

We've played 4 games over the festive period with 3 injuries and as stated before one of the smallest squads in the Premier League. I know people harp on about them being professional athletes and that but it takes it out of you.
It's been a year since Coyle took over and it takes a considerable amount of time to change a teams style of player, it doesn't just happen over night.
Alright we drew with Wigan and should have won but the way they set out to play last night showed that they were more frightened of losing then getting anything from the game and it was our mistake that led to the equaliser and not anything amazingly brilliant that they did.
Apologies if that seems confrontational but Coyles done wonders with this team, we should be ecstatic that potentially we're not fighting relegation again first of all
Pfffft.

You mean we played ten or so tippy-tappy sideways and backwards passes in our own half before hoofing it over the top of the defence and into space for the pacy striker to run onto?
I thought it was rather better than that...

Great goal by Rodrigo lit up the night for me. Wigan battled hard but they were there for the taking and we should have won - needed a second goal.
Looking forward to a confidence boosting scoreline on Saturday against the non-leaguers as the FA Cup is a trophy we can do very well in! Predict 7 nil.

Re: Wiggin
I think we've hit the physical limit. Stu breaking down, Muamba dropping off mentally, brainsnaps in defence, etc our recent scratchiness speaks of a team that's suffering the after-effects of punching above its weight for three months.
We have a bit of LB and winger cover but in central defence our only other option is playing rightback, our other CM is a walking yellow card and our backup FWs don't appear to be up to the full 90. Not a great state of affairs and then there's the clubs circling Cahill...
In the absence of reinforcement I can see us sliding down to 10th pretty easily and staying there. Not that that would be terrible but still a bummer after touching the ceiling.

What was the crack with Elmander giggling after the kirkland clash..found it a tad bizzare.
Anyway it's about time I registered here..I've been following the forum for years now so it's about time I joined
Painful not finding the winner. Last minute chances falling to Elmo (despite form) and Muamba is unfortunate. Rodrigo is promising. Would be more upset but the mighty Liverpool result kind of made up for it.

Great story. Compelling, and rich.
Re: Wiggin
I can't wait til Wigan go down.
They hate us, and still bring a shocking following for the very short journey to the Reebok, rugby w*nkers. Saying that, night games in that suburb are mirror-opposite of what they were at Burnden, we couldn't sell out a night match if they'd have brought 5k
Got back to Bolton at 6pm, and a Wigan mob (with more police than fans in attendance) were singing anti-Bolton songs to commuters, shame the plums wanted to get away from Bolton before our fans turned out
30 points in January, 7th place, and we've been veeeeeeery unlcuky recently.
Onwards and upwards.

A streched squad thats played 4 games in a short space of time, missing 2 of our starting 11, late injury to Klasnic. We could have won that, but sometimes thats football. People booing (not loads but a few) at half time and full time was a disgrace, if you only come to watch us win then may as well go watch the Red filth up the road. Not the best display, but a point and maintains our good home form.
On a side note, the feckin drummer leading the cheat chants when Kirkland was injured, i know that they were wasting time from minute one, and it pisses folk off, but that too was disgraceful, no class at all.

Those booing are just as bad as the morons who booed when Megson was here and we struggled. Probably the same folk.screech powers wrote:A streched squad thats played 4 games in a short space of time, missing 2 of our starting 11, late injury to Klasnic. Cos we played well first half of the season folk think we're European candidates when in fact finishing 12th would be decent as most people would have snatched your hand off for that in August.
Expectations are ridiculous in football now. It would be nice if we can add a few in to try and make some improvements but we are what we are and chasing europe with such a small squad is always unlikely.

The positives come from the finish, had we put 2 of those chances in the mindset on here would be totally different.Rodrigo scored a good goal,Petrov looked good and when we picked up the pace we looked like we could murder them.Defensively(albeit against not much) better. they also had a very marginal offside where rodallega(?) was clean through and pulled out of his shot... several very dangerous throughballs and some scrambly chances from corners and free-kicks - they were not all over us - but in the spell after our goal - 15-20mins - they could easily have scored...

Re: Wiggin
I think what last night showed is we are three players short of being a good team. Now it maybe that the three are the three that are out injured/asia cupping it but i would rather get back the absentees and and sign three players in January which would give us a real boost.
Casting our minds back over the last three fixtures, we could quite easily had five or six points - realistically !!! with a tiny bit more luck and better reffing decisions. Having said that the first half last night was dire.
