Re: FA Cup Semi Final Ticket Rush
This is our 14th FA Cup semi, their 4th.
I think theres more apathy because we've been down this road a whole lot more, and recently.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

It happens. Liverpool and Boro games we sold out, yet the Reading game, a far more important one, we weren't even close.
Its real swings and roundabouts stuff with our lot, theres only a final will bring them out. ANd with 24k allocation, they'll be staying apathetic.

I think we will sell about 26k. I need four and I am considering waiting till open sale so I can get them all together, rather than get the two I am entitled now separately. I will monitor on a daily basis!
In terms of dissappointment at not selling out - I understand it, but Bolton is a relatively poor part of the world and asking people to fork out £100-£150 per person for a game of football where there is no trophy at stake is asking a lot in the current economy. Most of our true fanbase are clearly going - it is only some of those who attend less frequently who are not - which is fair enough IMO.

It is an interesting point that many people overlook. I know a couple of people who have worked in some part of the benefits system, and they claim Bolton to be one of the most impoverished towns in the country. Both now and before the current problems.

Didn't some survey come out when we got promoted to the Prem in 2001, suggesting that Bolton fans were on average the poorest in the Prem at that time?Lord Kangana wrote:It is an interesting point that many people overlook. It rings a bell, but I couldn't say for sure.

Stoke have 21,000 season ticket holders.
We have 13,000.
In general they have a bigger following than we do.
Not sure much further analysis is required.

OK. Pretty good logic so far.
And the next question would be?

How many Premier League clubs are there within 20 miles of Stoke City?enrdentw wrote:Bolton is very similar in size and demographic as Stoke. So I don't think we can use that as an excuse.

That's demographics.

"We're taking more fans than you." is a pissing up the wall exercise anyway. Every Bolton fan attending the game will be shouting loud, I suspect.
It'll be a great day out whether we sell 25,000, 28,000 or 30,000 plus. The Stokies can do what they like.
God's country! God's county!
God's town! God's team!!
How can we fail?
COME ON YOU WHITES!!

For now they do, Until the novelty wears off, in which case, they'll have similar attendances to ourselves.BWFC_Insane wrote:Stoke have 21,000 season ticket holders.

Historically, we've always had similar attendances throughout the divisions.

Re: FA Cup Semi Final Ticket Rush
This is Stokes third season in the Premier League. In our third season in the Premier League we were averaging almost 27,000. Let's see if they're still pulling in those sort of crowds if they stay up for as long as we have before generalising about the size of their following.BWFC_Insane wrote:Stoke have 21,000 season ticket holders.

Yep, well remembered. Of season ticket holders. I did a piece on it for TnT. IIRC we had the lowest average income in the league. The second highest no of degree-educated fans. And the highest proportion of women supporters.bristol_Wanderer3 wrote:Didn't some survey come out when we got promoted to the Prem in 2001, suggesting that Bolton fans were on average the poorest in the Prem at that time?Lord Kangana wrote:It is an interesting point that many people overlook. So poor, clever and cuddly...

There was the analysis of singing ability that some university music department did - not on volume but quality... which put us rock bottom.
So - poor, clever, cuddly and tuneless... Anyone feel they might be looking in the mirror?

I suppose our range of songs didn't and indeed doesn't lend itself to musical quality. It would be hard for Pavarotti to make a tuneful version of "We are the one and only Wanderers", or "Big Sam, super white army"!William the White wrote:Yep, well remembered. Of season ticket holders. I remember that. I think it was Southampton that were the most melodious.William the White wrote:There was the analysis of singing ability that some university music department did - not on volume but quality... which put us rock bottom.
Five Live did a piece on it. They had this Saints' supporter on who, like a nightingale, sang Pie Jesu (or somesuch), followed by some proper scrotter, presumably straight out The Ancient Shepherd, bawling, to no discernable tune "Allardyce's superwhite army".
My heart sank. Why oh why do the BBC, whenever they want to do a piece about Bolton/Boltonians, seek out the thickest c*nt in town?
May the bridges I burn light your way

Same whenever they film Newcastle fans, it is always those who have time to protest outside the ground at 3pm, and who invariably cannot string two words of pseudo-english together.

2nd highest no. of degree educated fans, and the 20th lowest income ?! So much for a higher education ?!William the White wrote:Yep, well remembered. Of season ticket holders.
