3 games into pre-season and only one injury and that happened in a B team game!

If we'd have thumped them 5-0 with Eaves scoring every single goal, I doubt it would've been treated as an insignificant game.

I'm not saying this proves that we're shit, but it's not a promising sign.

You can't tell a thing till the season starts for real. Not a thing.
You know .... we all know that's right ... but it was that sort of bollox to fall back on which we got last year, and the year before from that useless, clueless Scottish tw@t and I don't want to hear it again.

Sorry.
It's true every year though. We know the problems and strengths we have from last season.

Wait till the season is underway before panicking or getting overly excited.

Aye, it'll be reet

I'm still hopeful that it will, But tonight, with new signings and the fact Burnley gave them a tonking last week, a 1-0 loss to Carlisle is hard to take.

It would. Because it would still have absolutely no influence to what happens at Burnley and beyond. We won this division last without winning a pre season game, it's totally irrelevant.

Everyone got dead excited in Sammy Lees pre season. Were those games significant? If so he should never have been binned off.

Defo with the insane one here, pre-season is about trying out combinations of players, tactics etc. It means the square root of feck all once the season starts

Craig Davies and Tom Eaves has been tried now. Hopefully that's it for that one.

It was just wrong. Eaves did ok. He can hold the ball up alright, just needs to learn about who to bring into play etc from there. While he was doing that, Davies looked a little lost. There was just NO movement to worry the Carlisle centre backs. Needs one of them and someone offering something different.

It would have been treated as significant by the same people who think losing is significant, and not by those who don't, I reckon.

The games aren't completely irrelevant, but the results are. Shrewsbury frinstance, the interplay up top looked great, that's significant (to an extent). The basic lapses in defending for their first goal are significant. The fact we couldn't hold onto a two goal lead is not. There isn't the same intensity to chase a result or hang onto one.

Tonight I'll be far more worried if it turns out we looked ponderous going forward and leaky at the back for prolonged periods. You might worry if you're getting tonked, but then that happened to Newcastle and they went up.

The team we played tonight was possibly the worst back line I could think up and the most random front two of Eaves and Davies. Hardly our strongest 11 that will line up at season start.

We would of hardly been going all out with the weather as well. We wouldn't want any stupid injuries.

Personally I am not to worried. Like everyone else I would like a better centre back pairing but who knows on that front. Dougie is still looking going off his comments tonight.

so - your player analysis (f'rinstance slating Knight's CB partner) from the previous pre-season friendly - that was insignificant and means nothing - right? or have I missed something?
