It is I'm afraid. They looked into it, it's too hard. We're sacking it off and playing 8 strikers.Lord Kangana wrote:Forgive me for dredging this up, but you know, my hazy recollection of the dim and distant past of say about two weeks ago seems to recall that bringing other teams youngsters in instead of nurturing our own was something only an know-nowt idiot would do. Have I remembered incorrectly?
And maybe its kind of slipped the coaching staff's ( and indeed whoever it is who negotiates our player transfers) collective mind, but we really could probably do with looking at our defence in a kind of quite a sort of priority kinda way. If its not too much trouble, obviously.

There's nothing wrong with our defence. What we need is six or seven more strikers and problem solved.Lord Kangana wrote:Forgive me for dredging this up, but you know, my hazy recollection of the dim and distant past of say about two weeks ago seems to recall that bringing other teams youngsters in instead of nurturing our own was something only an know-nowt idiot would do. Back in the mists of time when comics were first invented, there used to be a weekly story called "It's goals that count!".( About a gas fitter or summat who played football? ) Sixty five years later, despite technology, ice baths, technique, structure and cohesion, secret agents, directors of cone patterns and every footballer being a millionaire, you might say it's still the most important statement concerning football.

Si Deus pro nobis, quis contra nos?

Thing is, Tango, it's alright saying that "it's goals that count". Yes, at its core, that's what football is all about.TANGODANCER wrote:Ah, missed that. But the game has moved on. We need at least some semblance of that technological stuff to keep up with the crowd. Otherwise you're managing professionals like a bunch of under 12s.
Which, as it seems, might not be so far from what's currently going on...

No offence Plymouth, but can we put this thread out of it's misery. It's just cruel now.

It can move on forever and at mach speed. It's still comes down to scoring goals. One will do, as Leeds proved today. They got one, we didn't, and lost.truewhite15 wrote:Thing is, Tango, it's alright saying that "it's goals that count". Dougie, I think it's YOU who is supposed to be calling them !!
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
"I understand you are a very good footballer" ... "I try".

Well yes as evidenced by us scoring 4 in one game and not even getting a point last year. But. It is certain to say that not scoring any, the best you can do is a point.thebish wrote:TANGODANCER wrote: It can move on forever and at mach speed. It's still comes down to scoring goals. As Brucie said, lots of "shots" yesterday. Kenny could've taken a book to read. Did I ever mention N'gog's stealing a living? More so than Knight in my opinion. He still didn't manage to hit the target after everyone else had stopped for the whistle on one occasion, much to the mirth of the dirty Leeds fans.
Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
here's some news...
West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Clarke is blocking England Under-21 striker Saido Berahino's exit to Bolton Wanderers on loan.
Bolton boss Dougie Freedman has been turned down in a request for Berahino - despite offering him a chance to play every week.
Clarke shut the door on an early exit for Berahino, who scored twice for the Young Lions last week, and used him as a sub at Fulham on Saturday,
Burundi-born Berahino also notched a hat-trick for the Baggies in the League Cup but he is unlikely to figure in the Premier League.
Freedman wanted to bring in Berahino to lift the Championship's basement club and is juggling his staff to raise the funds.
