That's more like it. This thread ain't up to the standard that kind of controversy would warrant. It's a nice quiet thread. Nothing to see here, now move on.LeverEnd wrote:It's been denied by both Nixon and some dude from The Mail after checking with the club. Mischievous rumour probably.

Not sure how signing him could cause us any more financial harm than has already been done?! Given the situation we are in, I suspect he would be head and shoulders above any other potential striker we could sign. Re: how we could afford him, maybe he would consider a nominal wage just to get back into the game? Although his appeal is due in the next few months, so would expect that to take his mind off football matters.throwawayboltonian wrote:Don't think the club could stand up to it either mate. Whether guilty or innocent, I don't know enough details about the case to have an opinion either way, he just courts too much controversy which would harm us financially in the short term with sponsors and the long term with a sale. Glad to hear it's nothing more than a BS rumour.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:That's more like it. This thread ain't up to the standard that kind of controversy would warrant. It's a nice quiet thread. Re: Spotty's Seriously Sub-standard Second Rate Transfer Thr
My comment was that he would be "head and shoulders" above any other out-of-contract strikers who might consider joining a rock-bottom team with bugger all money for wages, rather than comparing him to our current players. That said, the general consensus is that Madine, Heskey and Dobbie are a complete waste of space, and we desperately need more options (either from the youth team or free transfers).throwawayboltonian wrote:Like with Sheff Utd and Oldham, there's the threat of petitions, sponsorships being pulled, big name involvement carrying weight. More long term the controversy will put off any potential investors.midlands exile wrote:Not sure how signing him could cause us any more financial harm than has already been done?! From a more footballing point of view he had one good season on the back of two terrible ones, so I wouldn't go so far as to call him "head and shoulders" above current players - especially given the timeframe since he last played professionally. Time out of the game, and the mental strain of the court case and appeal (rightly or wrongly) will have affected him too.
As it looks like a hoax rumour anyway, I won't get drawn into debating the controversy factor.
Re: Spotty's Seriously Sub-standard Second Rate Transfer Thr
Ched Evans is definitely a goalscorer who would add value to our team, BUT if recent history at Oldham is anything to go by, taking him on trial is going to just add more off-field palaver that we could probably do without right now.
Then again, things can't get any worse and he could benefit us in the longer term, i.e. League One.

If that rapist twunt comes anywhere near the club, I'll never buy a ticket again.
I'll get off the fence now, just so I don't get splinters.

Well you've often described our strikers as having 'the touch of a rapist'. At least in this instance it would be accurate!Bijou Bob wrote:If that rapist twunt comes anywhere near the club, I'll never buy a ticket again.

Calm down. Even if he was, which he claims he wasn't, and from the (very limited) evidence I've seen it's a bit of a stretch of the imagination to believe this was black and white and not a grey area, I do believe that British Justice allows that once he's served his sentence he doesn't need to undergo a witch trial each time his name is mentioned!Bijou Bob wrote:If that rapist twunt comes anywhere near the club, I'll never buy a ticket again.

[Having said that, those fxckers who killed that Bulger child shouldn't have had their identity changed... IMFO]
But anyfxckingway it's not relevant to this pathetic pastiche of a transfer thread...

Retired Sports Journalist John Graham tweeted it apparently, but even that is second hand - I was informed of that with not a little amount of glee by a mate of mine who's a Terrier and has been taking a seriously perverted interest in the goings on at the Macron since our game with them.thebish wrote:what on earth have you signed up to that results in that???Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Latest rumour that's arrived on my phone is we're after Joe Cole!
