Update: Clarke joins Wigan.TonyDomingos wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 12:09 pmThe BN reporting that we are after Leon Clarke (33 yo) from Sheffield United. Wiggin also in for him. "Ironically", he's available because of the Goal Machine's loan to the Blades.

An interest was lodged with Sheffield United for experienced front man Leon Clarke but Wigan Athletic have now confirmed they have beaten Bolton to the punch for the 33-year-old former Wolves front man.
It's Lloyd Dyer's time to shine...Wanderers say they have other options going into the last 24 hours of the window but with finances tight, Parkinson is taking nothing for granted.
“We are looking at loans and frees at the moment. It’s such an inflated market to buy players. We are trying and competing. We would like a couple ideally. If it comes to Thursday and no-one has come into the building then we have to deal with it. We lost Christian Doidge this year but last year we lost Gary Madine who’d got 10 goals at this time. We have the bonus of the youngsters and other players ready to make contributions who haven’t played as much.”

Struggling to understand how we can afford to even contemplate buying anybody, unless a Madinle like sale of someone (Ameobi, Connell?) is on the cards?

Re: Reconstruction time again: the summer 2018 transfer thread
We can’t afford to - it will be promises on the never-never. There was no way an operator as shrewd as Kevin McCabe is dealing with Ken. He’s shot his load now.
We might pick up someone either on a free or on a loan from a team where they get nowhere near the squad and don’t have a deal lined up with anyone who would actually pay them.
I suspect we’ll get no-one.

Re: Reconstruction time again: the summer 2018 transfer thread
I'm strugling to understand how anybody, unless they're absolutely desperate would contemplate coming here at all. Ken's done a real hatchet job on our respectability. To think we'll land anybody of quality is a pipe dream. Sad but true. "Oh, the brave music of a distant drum" as Omar Khayyam put it.bristol_Wanderer3 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 30, 2019 6:25 pmStruggling to understand how we can afford to even contemplate buying anybody, unless a Madinle like sale of someone (Ameobi, Connell?) is on the cards?

Just seen this on the B.N. club news site. Not exactly sure what it means? Quote :
"On top of all the transfer stuff - the EFL now disputing that Wanderers have opted out of the streaming agreement. All contrary to the info coming out of the club yesterday - but they say the fact it was a re-arranged game gave Bolton the option of withdrawing the stream."..unquote.

Can we even afford a pen with which to complete a signing?

It is starting to make sense. Connell has been introduced to save the club! We seemed to have succeeded in creating an auction, or at least credible rumours of one...

We'll surely have a few stocks over from previous sponsors, Lada, Wonga, Betfred etc. Should be no problem as footballers now all have their own gold Montblanc fountain pens in their Gucci handbags. Biros, etc are all in thr quill pen archives....TonyDomingos wrote: ↑Thu Jan 31, 2019 11:23 amCan we even afford a pen with which to complete a signing?

What are the odds on "We'll have to go with what we've got!" being No1 on top of the flops chart tonight?

Iles is doing a "deadline day legends" feature to make up for the lack of any real news. Rivaldo at no. 6!TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Thu Jan 31, 2019 12:59 pmPeter Odemwingie being mentioned in the B.N.live transfers column???

Re: Reconstruction time again: the summer 2018 transfer thread
Deadline day. Ho-hum.
Lines so far:
INCOMINGS
• We (plus Rotherham and Sunderland) were interested in Bournemouth's Sam Surridge (20yo striker, 12 in 20 for Oldham on loan this season before being recalled) but he's staying put
• Wanderers deny interest in James Vaughan, who's gone from Wigan to Pompey on loan
WILDCARDS
• Rudy Gestede has rejected a loan from Boro to Millwall; dunno if he'd be happier coming back to Lancashire, or if we're interested or can afford him
• Gestede's team-mate Ashley Fletcher - aka "former Canon Slade pupil Ashley Fletcher" - linked again, as per most windows
OUTGOINGS
• Al Nixon suggests Bury might loan Jake Turner, which would be a welcome sep up for him
• Sunderland and Charlton have asked to loan Oztumer; no sign we'll say yes
• Iles source at Wanderers says we've turned down bids for two players, including Connell (Southampton and Brighton were said to be interested); presumably the other was a low-ball for one of our quarter-decent players like Ameobi

Re: Reconstruction time again: the summer 2018 transfer thread
Iles' antennae are twitching:
"...after making a few calls, I'm feeling a bit more optimistic something will get done today. No idea what he's like as a goal-scorer but I understand [Everton's] Callum Connolly is close to severing his loan deal with Wigan Athletic - and looks likely to sign for Wanderers. There hasn't been much indication from the Wanderers camp, in truth, but sources elsewhere suggest the move is very much on."
He's a defender/midfielder. 21, 6ft1in, England U21 caps.
