Re: Can Wanderers Mackem pay? - Official Match Thread
I guess though forget how they play, the question is would we take their end result? I imagine most would, safety and a trophy with European football next seasons.Bruce Rioja wrote:Good question, but no, not at all. Firstly, to watch a team whose default formation is 4-5-1 and that has its supporters fearing relegation all season? I think we all know the answer to that one.lovethesmellofnapalm wrote:with hindsight now that they are probably safe who would take Birmingham's season over ours?
Tell you what though - my mate Big Matty the Bluenose is crashing over at mine tomorrow night. I'll ask him whose season he'd have taken and will report back.
Bloody hell we'd take Stoke's in a heartbeat especially now they're above us in the league with a cup final to look forwards to next week!

I'm saying this is a good season, solely due to the end result, nowt to do with how we play
FWIW, all but about 4/5 games have been far from special
Even under GM we got a few games that were entertaining

2-2 v the rags
3-2 at wolves
4-2 v spurs
5-1 v geordies
2-1 v blackburn
2-0 v everton
3-2 v villa
3-2 at brum
3-0 v hammers
2-1 v arsenal
more than 4 or 5 i'd say. granted all of them not great performances but most were and the rest were entertaining and had special moments/spells.
could also be tempted to add the 2-2 comebacks against blackpool & brum at home. i don't think a megson team could have comeback in them.

I'll actually concede a few of them were entertaining but you can't be claiming we played well in them all
Blackburn was dire
Brum no better
Everton? Can't remember it
The performance against Newcastle was stunning...Tottenham wasn't bad
I even enjoyed Blackpool, cos I saw that we'd have had 6 with a bit of luck in the early stages...should probably have lost it, though
The ironic thing is that Elmander - who is shit - was the shining light in our 'great' performanes

You really should watch that terrible tendency towards overstatement...CAPSLOCK wrote:I'll actually concede a few of them were entertaining but you can't be claiming we played well in them all

Excellent report.
Let us not develop the Charlton syndrome of giving up when we are safe... We can all see the ghastly evidence of where that leads...
The show against Arsenal augured well for putting the surreal and incomprehensible catastrophe behind us... the non-show ever since speaks of our devastated midfield, our tired legs and our lack of focus in the brain. It speaks of our lack of will...
It's a warning... Heed it...
