Re: CH's all singing all dancing transfer gossip thread on t
If we had money I'd have already bought a whole host of players. I suspect any manager would. I'm not so sure there'll be the option this time. It will really depend on the next couple of results. They will absolutely not throw good money after bad if we're dead and buried.

That's the thing, we've been a holiday camp for too long.Lord Kangana wrote:If we had money I'd have already bought a whole host of players. I suspect any manager would. Joe Riley is remarkable because he's managed to get into our first team from our academy/youth/reserves. We seem happy for players to go and play for other teams but we don't give them chances in our first team. I noticed on an Ipswich blog that it sounds like we're touting Mark Connolly out to Championship clubs. From what I read he's a versatile CB who can play anywhere across the back or in CM. Are we selling him to get some money, or because he's not a premier league player? If it's the latter we might actually be able to bring some kids through if we go down.
Talking of which, I've read somewhere that our academy isn't that great compared to Utd/Citeh (shock horror!). If it's just because we're a smaller club that's one thing but if it's underperforming we need to get that sorted.
All this buying our way out of trouble is getting less realistic.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
Re: CH's all singing all dancing transfer gossip thread on t
I'd be annoyed if we sold Connolly to a Championship team, rather than loaning him out to one beforehand. He can hardly show much in one appearance for St. Johnstone.
Re: CH's all singing all dancing transfer gossip thread on t
No point talking about Ricketts at CB considering with Alonso out we need him at LB, pretty sharpish!

I agree .... however, he's been with us 2 years now & let's assume that the coaching staff have SOME capacity to assess a player. We're in the middle of the worst injury crisis (defenders in particular) I can remember and the guy's not even been given a cushion for a seat of the bench.jmjhb wrote:I'd be annoyed if we sold Connolly to a Championship team, rather than loaning him out to one beforehand. Disappointing, & I hope I'm jumping to conclusions, but it doesn't seem good.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

At his age (20?) He should really be knocking on the door, but it seems he's nowhere near.

Alonso out for a month, Mears out? Ricketts and Riley (who has played 2 games for us) coming back...
Think crisis is going a bit far.....

OK, scratch 'defensive injury crisis' and use 'shortage of defenders' .... with bans, form and injuries, tell me if his never even getting a look in as a sub in the past few weeks shows that they rate him.BWFC_Insane wrote:Defensive injury crisis?bobo the clown wrote:I agree .... however, he's been with us 2 years now & let's assume that the coaching staff have SOME capacity to assess a player. When I've seen him his problem is his size more than anything else...
Just not big enough for a centre half in the premiership IMO!

So why the fcuk did we pay a considerable sum to Wolves? Surely our half-wits in charge didn't think he was still going to gain another 6 inches in height at the age of 18?BWFC_Insane wrote:Nah I agree with that....bobo the clown wrote:OK, scratch 'defensive' and tell me if his never even getting a look in as a sub in the past few weeks shows that they rate him.BWFC_Insane wrote:Defensive injury crisis?bobo the clown wrote:I agree .... however, he's been with us 2 years now & let's assume that the coaching staff have SOME capacity to assess a player. If he can play anywhere along the backline he could play LB... or do you have to be tall to be a LB?bedwetter2 wrote:So why the fcuk did we pay a considerable sum to Wolves? Surely our half-wits in charge didn't think he was still going to gain another 6 inches in height at the age of 18?

Well being serious for a second height is useful in terms of making it harder for a team to put a diagonal in or behind a fullback.Oftentimes you see this type of ball aimed in Robbos direction and the least the opposition get from it is a throw in. Ideally fullbacks do need pace and reasonable height in the modern game. I like Robbos attitude but unfortunately he has neither the height nor the pace to make up for his slightly dodgy positional sense. On the upside he has a cool head and always times his tackles to perfection.

I LOVE his mentality & his old-fashioned 'real footballer' style ... but his positional sense is soooo poor that he's a liability.Ianmooreslovechild wrote:Well being serious for a second height is useful in terms of making it harder for a team to put a diagonal in or behind a fullback.Oftentimes you see this type of ball aimed in Robbos direction and the least the opposition get from it is a throw in. Full-backs are often pretty short.
Cashley Ole being the current example.
