Can't hurt. Neither can the apparent competition for his signature. And nor can Arsenal's apparent eagerness to get it done relatively sharpish: according to a couple of reports this morning, they've already offered more. One report even claims they're happy to go as high as £5m up front with add-ons taking it to a possible £6m.

We could sign up Jamie Thomas for 250 years with that.
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

Ive just checked out of idle interest and the cost of a new Aston Martin Vanquish Volante is £207,950. If Oscar Threlkeld were to be paid £500 per week - £3 over the national average earnings as reported in February, and around two-thirds the average League Two wage reported the same month, which would seem about right for a young player yet to prove himself - he would have to save up for eight years. Maybe he could carpool or live on a bus route.

As for Jamie Thomas and his theoretical £200pw, he'd have to save up for four decades, and I bet by then the price would have gone up anyway.

He was last time I checked, but judging by his performance at Fulham he's no more of a centre-back than Ivan Campo was. Still, I guess we can play him there if need be - like for instance if we're still shelling out £2.6m pa to Spearing, Davies and Pratley, and feel we might as well try to fit them in...

The facts are that a properly coached & motivated team comprising of Amos, Moxey, Dervitte, Wilson, Holden (OK but for now), Mavies, Pratley, Spearing, Clayton, Clough, etc. will still make a very good 3rd Division team.

(I couldn't quite bring myself to mention Madine).
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

You would hope so considering the money they're being paid - not to bang on about it but we're talking much better-paid players than the third-tier average, and half a team with top-flight experience. If we played a midfield quartet of Spearing, Pratley, Davies and Trotter, their annual salary of £3m would be more than the entire squad of some opponents.

As it stands - and there's a way to go yet - we're weakest on the wings and (assuming Holding goes) centre-back, but we also need a centre-forward.

But add Woollery while we're talking. For me it's down to attitude and organisation. The sulky fckr captaining us can say what he likes but there were no leaders last season & we need a couple.

Deano. player-manager-owner - sorted.

Holdsworth on Holding, per BN:
It has to be a deal that suits the football club and not anyone else. If it isn’t right we will not do it.

He is going to play in the Premier League all day long. He will be a top player and I think he could go on to be an international.

He has got representatives who speak to us and keep a dialogue with us. His heart is here and I think it always will be. At some point he will go on. I think he has to for his career because we rate him that highly. But right now we need to do the best for the football club and the fans.

There are qualities in him that I have seen in many top players I played with and played against. He is unflustered, calm on the ball, able to step into areas and that is a vital ingredient for any modern day centre-half now, he needs to be able to use the ball.

Rob has got all of that, has an amazing future ahead of him, and if he listens to the right people he will achieve all that.
