4 Million on a player we had last season and hardly ever used.
Something tells me the kitty is not only dry, but that Coyle is struggling to get people in.
Little bit worried with the lack of movement in the striker area.
If we're going into the season playing 4-4-2 with Klasnic and Davo up front then...good lord...just NO.
Bones of our arse financially, desperate to sell Cahill - with rapidly aging players in our attacking lineup. Hmm.

Rapidly ageing?! Like in that film with Robin Williams?Choppers wrote:4 Million on a player we had last season and hardly ever used.

There is money to spend. Coyle has said that time and time again recently. He has also explained that the reason movement is slow is because he has a specific list of players he wants to sign and will be patient in the process of doing so.Choppers wrote:4 Million on a player we had last season and hardly ever used.

Thats not to say its not worrying.
But this is Coyle's policy, rather like Allardyce he has said its about waiting for the right players rather than steaming in for whoever was available. I suppose its about protecting our resources rather than say spending money on players who might improve us short term but longer term lose their value, which is what Megson has been roundly criticised for here.
As much as I'm worried by our lack of activity there is a balance. It would for example be gutting to spend our resources on Carlton Cole now because he's available and can run faster than Klasnic, if then Sturridge becomes available in August. Thing is we've been here before countless times, Coyle's neck is on the line so I guess at the minute we've got to trust he makes the right calls!

All this worried stuff? Are we sounding like we have no players?
Jussi, Steinsson, Alonso, Robinson. Even if Cahill goes we have Wheater and possibly Rickets to cover central defence with Knight, Holden, Mark Davies, Muamba, Pratley and Ricky G, possibly Sean Davies, Lee, Taylor, Petrov, possibly Moreno, Davies, Klasnic and Blake. That's without anybody else coming in or any of the young lads mentioned, and it's July 8th. Let's be worried when there's reason. I can't see any right now.

Thats a list of names. Very different when you have to put that together to make a team capable of winning premiership games.TANGODANCER wrote:All this worried stuff? Are we sounding like we have no players?

We don't have a premiership front 2. In fact we don't have 2 forwards likely to get through 2 full games back to back.
Lets not pretend that we're "ok as it stands" because we're very blatantly not. But Coyle has said today he understands that and knows what we need, and that he wants to bring in the right players. Here are the quotes.
Bottom line is we can't go into the season without adding if we want to be anything other than cannon fodder. Coyle knows this, he also knows we can't afford to splash money around and make expensive mistakes. We need signings but we also need them to count. If we haven't brought a few in (especially a striker) before the QPR game then I think there will be widespread panic. Right now all we can hope is that they are working on the right players and manage to do those deals! There are one or two bits I know need adding to the jigsaw but the pleasing thing for me is that I know what needs to be done.
I’m not going to bring people in just to have an extra body. It has to be the necessary quality.
If that means we have to wait two or three weeks, then we’ll do that. The bottom line is that I know where we need to improve and I’m out there in the market place doing it.

Apart from Sturridge and Elmander, and including Cahill it's a list of names that beat Arsenal next to last game without Holden. You make it sound like Laburnum Rovers. Like I said, it's the 8th of July not September. Give it time.

Which is fine TD until you realise the two people who actually stuck the ball in the onion bag that day are not in there. Take Rodrigo out too as he is definitely not coming back now. No way that Davies and Klasnic are a suitable premiership strike force! We also have no cover for LCY and as it stands no fit cover for Steinsson!

One of them was Cohen. No one really knows right now about Roderigo. Third time of repeat. It's July 8th. TD read the updated piece on Rodrigo on the BN website, he is not coming back! The information they printed in the paper was out of date!

I'd hang my hat on the fact that there isn't as much money as there was before Coyle arrived. S'all relative.

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Why do you think that mate? All of our purchases under Coyle have been relative small and only one (petrov) will have been on reasonably high wages. If (and it's a big if) Cahill goes it'll definately be £10 mil plus which isn't too shabby at all! That combined with increased attendances and a f.a cup semi final appearence I don't see how we would be worse off than before, saying all that I always seem to scan over our actual debt figures, so i don't know the ins and outs, but it seems the debts are all owed to eddie davies and therefore no interest year on year. Not saying you're wrong pal, i'm pretty much clueless on our finances, but thats just my 2 centsLord Kangana wrote:I'd hang my hat on the fact that there isn't as much money as there was before Coyle arrived. We can only go off what Coyle says. He is getting the backing but is waiting for the right players. Whether that is the right strategy time will tell. Hopefully it will pay off short and long term!Lord Kangana wrote:I'd hang my hat on the fact that there isn't as much money as there was before Coyle arrived. S'all relative.
