The. Absolute. Man. I guess the old f*ckers remember Nat, but he's the nearest I've ever seen to epitomising what we are.

No argument re SKD but, as an older - er - gentleman, I always felt Tommy Banks and the Chopper epitomized the way we were. Nat epitomized more than what we were, rather what footballers should aspire to be.Prufrock wrote:The. Absolute. Man. Re: Kevin Davies
My favourite KD pic is the one where he's looking down at his spectacularly dislocated finger, evidently thinking "Damn, I suppose I'd better get this sorted before getting back to work." This is the man who (at Charlton) played on for nearly an hour with what turned out to be a fractured cheekbone.
To play as a lone forward requires the desire to put in effort which is frequently unrewarded and few can have given so much to the cause as SKD. From the moment he was brought in on trial, an unwanted half-joke who turned into the club's best free signing since the entire 1958 cup-winning team, he gave his guts for the club he clearly came to love.
It's not his fault his eternal availability often tempted team-mates to "go long" too early, too often or (worst) too inaccurately and lazily. Just proves how much was expected of him.
The manner of his departure rankled, and I note he's also mentioned disappointment with Preston not offering a contract, but that's a mere molehill to the mountain of memories, from Munich on down.
Thanks, Kev.

Re: Kevin Davies
In summer 2003, he joined Bolton having been released by Southampton. In a season where he rediscovered his best form, he scored ten times and started every league game. He ended the season by winning the club's Player of the Year award and scored a consolation goal for his team in the 2004 Football League Cup Final against Middlesbrough in Cardiff.

In his Bolton career Davies has committed over 1000 fouls, more than any other Premier League player in the competition's history.
