Exactly what I thought, Boris. Some achievement. So, since then, BM have gone on to do the treble and we've played Yeovil in a league match. :hang:

I had to look up the team ... as more of those in the photo than I'm comfortable with I didn't recognise.

Bolton: Al Habsi, Andrew O'Brien, Cid, Michalik, Gardner, Alonso (Giannakopoulos 56), Nolan, Guthrie, McCann, Braaten (Teymourian 77), Davies.
Subs Not Used: Walker, Speed, Harsanyi, Sinclair, Sissons.

Booked: Davies, Braaten, Cid, Andrew O'Brien.

Goals: Gardner 8, Davies 82.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I know it's all about results but Megson got Dog's abuse for his team selection for Madrid but possibly the most prestigious match of the past 40 years had us playing Cid, Michalik, Guthrie, Braaten and have Adranik, Sissons, Sinclair, Harsanyi there too.

... & again, may I repeat, Cid ffs.

Mikel Alonso - known only as Xabi Alonso's brother. Another one, like Cid, that was forced into early retirement through being absolutely shite.

Sh!t. That one slipped my gaze.

How the hell didn't we get utterly pasted ?

(apart from Ribery being subbed off after having a field day against us).

Jason Bourne's still very confused. He thinks he plays for Bolton.

Megson really was a wanker with that team selection.

I notice that Hoss saves himself for the big games when it comes to starting match threads.

Gerald cid v frank ribery. And we drew! I was absolutely battered so cant remember much...hence dragging the match thread back up .

We clearly used up 10 years of luck with this result. In 4 years time we may get some good luck!

But yeah. Look at where we were then and now... Still , we 'll be back! :oyea:

Too right.
Big games deserve big names. You'll never see me starting threads about teams like Chesterfield or Plymouth or Arsenal.

We used up two minutes of unbelievable luck when their manager decided to take Ribery off.

We've been in the bottom three a million times, and will be there a million more. But we'll only ever play a European game in Munich that single solitary time.
I'm not sure you even know what point it is you're trying to make yerself now a1...I think you're suggesting Meggo wasn't a wanker and that we should bring back Coyle to give the team the clap. Or something.

No, he's stating we played an understrength team

As we did at Belgrade

As we did in Lisbon

As we did in our first ever European away game under Fatman

It worked, we stayed up

Til Coyle sorted all that shit
