Vela looked very good in possession and might have a decent career at our level. Sordell looks sharp, made a few decent runs and a very good run for the goal. I can almost guarantee Davo wouldn't have got there. He is very much like Eagles, strikes me as a confidence player. Just before his goal he made a clever dribble and played in Eagles. Little things like that will do him good in the long run.
It was also noticeable how many fewer long balls we played, its been said so many times but Davo is such an easy outball that it becomes counter productive by the number of long balls we play.
And where has this form for Alonso come from? From horrible performance after another he's now churning out world class level games week in week out. He might have been the best of the two very good left backs on show.

He's been miles better but let's not get carried away!

I was obviously exaggerating! But the turnaround in form is a mystery to me, he hasn't once shown glimpses of this marauding fullback in the time he's been here. It has seemingly come out of nowhere.Prufrock wrote:Dr.Karl wrote:Really enjoyable game. Now we know what he is capable of lets hope he keeps it up and we can sort a contract before he goes off to Fiorentina!

y'see - I think he did - but whenever we had a glimpse - then he was instantly injured...Dr.Karl wrote:I was obviously exaggerating! Dont doubt he hasnt improved masively and benfitted from proper coaching.
But he's sat on his arse for 2.5 years picking a wage up and is all of a sudden showing some potential...? he's had his dissapearing court case and cost us s tidy sum and will soon be swanning off without making us a penny. I'm not going to be won over as easily as some!

so it seems!! but if he has come good - then it'd be cutting our noses off to spite our faces to get shut of him so cheaply now...officer_dibble wrote:Dont doubt he hasnt improved masively and benfitted from proper coaching.

We don't have a choice. He's already gone in the summer on a free whether we like it or not.thebish wrote:so it seems!! but if he has come good - then it'd be cutting our noses off to spite our faces to get shut of him so cheaply now...officer_dibble wrote:Dont doubt he hasnt improved masively and benfitted from proper coaching.

Only question is whether a bid comes in from Fiorentina large enough to compensate us for losing him now rather than the summer.

Short of stumping up wages that are beyond the budget, I fear it's out of our hands.
And yes, I do have a view on what may have brought about the turnaround.

Even if we were able to match Fiorentina's wages, why would Alonso want to stay here, when he can move to a top flight Italian club?Enoch wrote:Short of stumping up wages that are beyond the budget, I fear it's out of our hands.

Frankly I'm not massively bothered. I think he has played well recently, but I still don't think he can defend for toffee. Not when really put to a proper test. And if we were to actually ever go back up, I think he'd be found out most weeks.
Re: Everton In The Cup
I don't get it, a player get's slated for most of his time with us, he show's a bit of form, a club is interested, and then it's the player's loyalty that will be questioned.
Re: Everton In The Cup
I imagine he might 'want to stay here' if we offered appreciably more than anyone else, as no doubt his agent would tell him it was in his best interests.
I think he can defend for toffee and with the right input will be a very good player for many years, health permitting.

most of that time, he were bench fodder under coyle. maybe now he's got somebody proper telling him what to do- he's getting games. douglas rescued him, but now [he/we] wont see the benefit. i dont see what's not to "get". seems simple enough to me.Beefheart wrote:I don't get it, a player get's slated for most of his time with us, he show's a bit of form, a club is interested, and then it's the player's loyalty that will be questioned.

I haven't seen any of these recent games in which he's apparently become the next Maldini, and, frankly, it's hard to envision when last season I witnessed him put in one of the most excruciatingly, embarrassingly shite performances I've ever seen from a Bolton player. What specifically has been so outstanding about his recent performances? I remember him being so slow it looked as if he was running through treacle. Has he suddenly discovered some pace?

Except for that £12m Man Utd international, £11m Man City international (twice) and that £5m Everton international.BWFC_Insane wrote:Even if we were able to match Fiorentina's wages, why would Alonso want to stay here, when he can move to a top flight Italian club?Enoch wrote:Short of stumping up wages that are beyond the budget, I fear it's out of our hands.
