Ream got skinned. Name me a fullback that doesn't.

In my eyes the ball went in the net because our goaler didn't command his little white box. The ball looped high up and he was on his line, on his heels. I reckon Zat Knight felt the same too, check his reaction.

Every time it showed Ream (at least 3) he was getting skinned. He also looked clumsy and undeceive about putting his foot in the way and stopping a cross, Unfortunately for Tim, stopping a cross is rule one for a full back.

I was only half watching and thought the same about our Left Back (and from the Shrewsbury game too) - if they were both Ream, then it's all becoming much clearer.

With the caveat that this is a friendly......

I think there are possibly two schools of thoughts on full backs, I think. One is the Allardyce one where full backs at all costs should prevent wingers from cutting inside and full backs should also guard the back posts and tuck in where necessary to cover the centre halves. But that stopping crosses was not that essential because it was up to the centre backs and keeper to deal with crosses once they come in.

The other school of thought is that the fullbacks should do everything they can to stop the service coming into the box and that your holding midfield players pick up the gaps if a winger comes inside.

Certainly on the goal Carlisle score there are a fair few problems. At the start of the move a player has so much time to chip a pass out to a winger from the centre circle. No pressure on the ball. The winger is then in yards of space and can run at Ream who doesn't engage him early enough. However there is no cover for Ream. From then the two centre halves both get attracted to the near post and are virtually on top of each other. The cross loops up off Ream and Mears is left marking two players on the back post.

Its a friendly so we have to take into account the fact that we're playing in 2nd gear more than likely. But there are loads of errors and issues highlighted there.

Bogdan for me can't be blamed really. Not sure there was a real opportunity to come and claim it.

I don't really buy the second gear thing, it was a friendly for them too, so were they in second gear?

I can understand pulling out of a really shakey 50/50 maybe, but non of Ream getting skinned fell into that category.

Probably to players at a lower level there is more motivation. We'll see when the season starts.

I don't think Ream was particularly skinned either. He was too far off the man, but stayed with him and cross deflected off him. Poor defending but he's not alone there. What was the midfield doing? Where was Eagles as the ball went out wide? Where was the cover for Mears? What were the centre halves doing?

Thought it was Lonnergan on the team sheet??

I don't buy into this "It's only a friendly" BS either, It's only been friendlies for the teams we have faced and we haven't beaten one yet, All lower leagues too.

Our defense is shocking. End of story.

I thought Ream did everything right there, apart from getting an unlucky deflection. Didn't dive in at first, showed him outside, didn't dive in again when he looked like he might cross it, and kept pace to close him down. Could have been a bit more forceful in the end, as the player had ran out of pitch, but harsh to pin it on him. He's shit, but he isn't shit ALL the time.

Zat f*cking Knight is the one chucking his arms up and having a paddy because Tyrone Mears has left his man unmarked. That'll be because he's had to try to get across to your f*cking man Zat, again, who's just had the freedom of the six-yard box to fire at Lonergan.

Just watched the rest of it. Ha! That was a fluke Timmy!

Nice to see Andrews stepping in around Chungy too. Good sign that.
