They probably saw all the infighting going on and decided to leave us to it!plymouth wanderer wrote:Surprised we haven't had any Tranmere fans on ere gloating

and they don't have the internet yet
Re: Tuesday's Trip to Tranmere
i think it is just shorthand for "the cash is tight" - but, being the optimistic type, I haven't yet ruled out the possibility that eddie will stump up the cash if a convincing case is put to him... i would just be very surprised if the club was actually operating on a rigid one-in-one-out policy - it seems a very rigid idea and doesn't seem to fit the reality of the football world - players don't become available according to a neat pattern. It's quite likely, I think, that a few will come available as the window starts to close and we will see more come in than go out in the last few days plus whatever the loan window is...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Y'have to say, Bish, that the evidence is piling up. The last two transfers in happened simultaneously with the last two transfers out; the manager has said words to that effect; and we don't look much like getting in an extra body despite what looks increasingly like a legitimate use of that overused phrase "injury crisis" - not to mention an extremely underwhelming start to the season.thebish wrote:i don't think we have a rigid one-in-one-out policy - no - I don't think it can be as simple as that. I guess we will have a better idea at the end of dealings.. if we bring in another couple of players - and none leave - then I guess it will show we don't...BWFC_Insane wrote:But seriously, do you not believe that one in one out is the strategy? Or is it just coincidence that to sign Moritz we had to wait for someone to take one of ours and Spearing happened the same day Brighton agreed a deal for Andrews?
Even if we bring in a couple without outgoings, it doesn't prove that one-in-one-out hasn't been the policy since, I dunno, mid-July (when we signed Beckford a fortnight after releasing SKD).
I may be wrong... but I guess we'll see...

If you believe Nixon (and not saying I do) but his latest claim today is that Eddie Davies isn't in touch with Dougie and therefore no case for buying players can be put to him.thebish wrote:

I'm sure PG has Eddies number like....
I do think this whole window has been a bit strange. Dougie definitely talked it up at the start and in the middle, and I do think what he expected to materialise hasn't. Perhaps he was expecting to sell a couple more in order to raise some funds.
I can't see us doing much now until after the loan window re-opens later in September to be honest.

So unless we off load 1, or even possibly two more players before the end of the window, there is absolutely no prospect of us signing Dawson (or anybody) then?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Looks that way right now. I would hope the injury situation would change that. Although I'm guessing Eddie is aware of it. For a while now Dougie has been saying we need more players and in his opinion are light, yet we haven't deviated from the one in one out policy seemingly. Perhaps Eddie isn't for turning?Lord Kangana wrote:So unless we off load 1, or even possibly two more players before the end of the window, there is absolutely no prospect of us signing Dawson (or anybody) then?

Well if that's how his mind is made up, then no I'd say not. The last time he was this adamant was Elmander, and look how that turned out. I'm still a little sceptical that if push comes to shove with a couple of days left that they won' move if they feel they need to.

I think it is clear Dougie feels the need. But then one might argue what manager doesn't?Lord Kangana wrote:Well if that's how his mind is made up, then no I'd say not. I'm not fully sure I understand what motivates Eddie, in fact I think the whole thing is odd.

Re: Tuesday's Trip to Tranmere
Perhaps he gets pissed off with constantly having the begging bowl shoved under his nose? And perhaps he's now worried about where the club is going, and therefore how he'll get his money back? I'd be amazed if he was prepared to just write it off, so he has to both significantly reduce outgoings (even further) and simultaneously try to keep some money flowing. In short, I think they don't know what the answer is either. Because if he plunnged the club into administration...

or perhaps we are simply waiting for the player(s) we want to be made available. Anything could be going on behind the scenes that we would not (and should not) be aware of...BWFC_Insane wrote:Looks that way right now. I would hope the injury situation would change that. If Uncle Ed was a wise business man, I feel he'd know that this season would be an appropriate time to invest. Buy some players Ed, you know it makes sense...

Possibly so although having invested money into it, that is what happens.Lord Kangana wrote:Perhaps he gets pissed off with constantly having the begging bowl shoved under his nose? He gives us £1.5M to sign Spearing. Why do that if he just wants to cut costs?
One thing I fully agree with Nixon is that the only way Eddie Davies can get any of his money back is to sell us as a premiership club.
Feck if we went up he could probably claw a significant portion back by simply taking the TV money and not allowing the wage bill to increase or buying any players. If you finish bottom of the league the TV money is around £63M. Our wage bill according to PG on the radio yesterday, after last summers releases less than £25M. So even if you increased that to have a better chance of promotion. Promotion would still= profit.
He can cut costs all he likes. He's not getting anything back through going down that route barring a miracle. Which is what I think is odd.

Sorry, you can buy guaranteed promotion now? Because you're rather talking like a gambler after his next big win.

it'd be nice to find a manger who can take a team and get the best out of it - make it better than the sum of its parts - make a fist of a promotion campaign...Lord Kangana wrote:Sorry, you can buy guaranteed promotion now? Because you're rather talking like a gambler after his next big win.
I hoped that was what dougie could do - i haven't totally lost that hope - but it's dented hope at the moment...

Everything is a gamble now.Lord Kangana wrote:Sorry, you can buy guaranteed promotion now? Because you're rather talking like a gambler after his next big win.
I'd say that given the differential between premiership money and championship money, cutting costs and hoping for the best is a bigger gamble than "going for it". If you want to use that term of phrase.
If the current cutting costs course does not yield promotion this season, next season we lose a further £8M income. So what then? There doesn't seem to be a plan in that other than hope by some miracle someone somewhere will be able to get us promoted with little money and a small squad. It's happened before but the odds would very definitely not be in our favour. Especially given the even bigger money sides relegated from the premiership will have.
I can't actually see what Eddie's gameplan or exit strategy is. As a premiership club I could understand him wanting to bring costs down to try and make us more valuable to potential buyers.
But now I can't understand how he expects to get his money back now. Perhaps he never wants it back, but has just come to the end of his interest?

Or he might just think, " I'm being told about all these quality players we have, but we still aren't winning anything".Lost Leopard Spot wrote:If Uncle Ed was a wise business man, I feel he'd know that this season would be an appropriate time to invest. You might do that. Even going back to our last promotion, big spending Fulham won the league. We had to go via the risky route of the play-offs. Was still a huge achievement but could so easily have gone wrong.
