Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
He won't solve Arsenal's problems though, he's a cracking centre back but he needs a leader alongside him...perhaps Vermaalen could do that?

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Boateng deal from City to Bayern is done on the players side and the clubs are just ironing out the final money bits.. wouldn't be surprised if our Gary was at City by the end of the week.

Well, apparently not Dedryck Boyata - according to his dad/agent, quoted in the Mail, he doesn't want to join Bolton. So, on to the next target.

Mr Barnet
I heard a rumour that (proper) Ronaldo's hattrick against the Filth was actually voted the Number 1 Moment in European Football History by FourFourTwo magazine back in 2004 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is this true?

And I remember reading Onouha didn't want a return to Sunderland because he wanted a shot at City next year so presumably he'd have the same stance if Bolton came in.
Just gis' the money. No players, ta.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
I guess Onouha might fancy a loan since we're just down t'road...even Boyata might be convinced about a loan but we dont want city convincing us that having one of these on loan is worth knocking 5 or 7 million off the asking price !
I still think we'll end up with SWP in some capacity

Bit of money + players is the future, Jimbojimbo_bwfc wrote:And I remember reading Onouha didn't want a return to Sunderland because he wanted a shot at City next year so presumably he'd have the same stance if Bolton came in.

Top 4 will hoover up the talent and then deign to release it once it has waned to the likes of us
It's the future

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Players like Onouha will never get a game for Citeh because they will just go out and buy the next 'big thing'. I think a loan deal with us having first refusal might be the way to go?
Pfffft.

On reflection, I don't think it would be wise having a player that reminds me of a Simpsons charachter in our team. i wouldn't be able to take him seriously.

Arsenal Transfer News Sees Gunners Vault Into Lead In Race For Gary Cahill
Arsenal came into this summer's transfer window with a mandate to improve their shaky defense. The Gunners' back line was the primary reason for their disappointing collapse down the stretch in 2010-11, and manager Arsene Wenger knows that he has to improve his defense to avoid an outright revolt on the part of the fans.
Fortunately for the Frenchman, his club remains in the running to land one of the best defensemen on the market this summer, in Bolton's Gary Cahill. The 25-year-old center-half/defender has been on the block for the duration of the transfer period, but many saw Manchester City as the most likely landing place for him.
But, according to a report from Mirror Football, that has changed significantly. According to the report, a hitch in City's potential Cahill deal has seen the Gunners vault into the pole position, giving them the best chance of landing the talented stopper.
The Blues' offer was less cash than the £17 million buyout that Cahill has in his contract, but included a pair of young players, in defenders Dedryck Boyata and Nedum Onuoha. One of those players, Boyata, has declined to be included in a Cahill deal, causing the bid to stall as City scramble to find a replacement for him in their offer.
Meanwhile, Wenger is reportedly ready to offer cash-strapped Bolton the full amount of the buyout immediately, with a bit more on top for incentives in performance. That figures to be a much more tempting offer for the Wanderers' board, as they scramble to find cash this summer.
Frankly, I'm surprised the Gunners weren't the top choice already. One would think the board would be wont to pay more players, even at lower individual salaries, but a straight cash proposal would help them to dig out of debt.
In the end, this would be a huge win for Wenger, and one that would help to quiet his critics. Cahill is a superb defenseman, one who would immediately help to stabilize Arsenal's back line and provide the toughness and skill they lacked last season. He would give the Gunners the defensive presence they lacked last season, and would represent the club's first major victory on the transfer front. The deal is far from done, but perhaps this is just the edge the Gunners needed to land the talented 25-year-old.
