Jan Aage Fjortoft reckons there's no chance Solskjaer will go to Bolton (or Blackburn for that matter).

Failure at what? Keeping teams up? Only manager to keep Wolves in the top flight for more than one season in sommat like 30 years.Lord Kangana wrote:So lets get Mick McCarthy the proven failure then? F*cking genius.
On that basis you might as well appoint the fat kit man, cos he's never 'failed'.
I will leave it to Eddie and Phil, if they get someone unproven then it's a bigger risk. Not my money at stake though!

Pretty much how I see it though I completely understand the naysayers. I just cant see the board taking a chance on someone from the lower leagues or abroad. A friend of mine who follows sunderland thinks highly of him still. He has got teams up but hasnt had much money to keep them up. He does seem a bit old fashioned and maybe out of touch tactics wise but always seems to foster a good spirit and signs /sells well. I doubt there is anyone out there who will satisfy everyone.
Is a decent season at Molde really evidence of a managerial genius?
Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
however - you have to take into account the fact that talk sport are also running a story that solskjaer is a serious contender for the Bolton job... summat tells me they will be right one way or the other!!thebish wrote:It's a Talksport story...Jim wrote:Whereabouts has he said that?jmjhb wrote:Jan Aage Fjortoft reckons there's no chance Solskjaer will go to Bolton (or Blackburn for that matter).

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
Whilst I would prefer us to make the bold step of looking to Europe for a manager with a good pedigree, and technical coaching ability who can use BWFC as a great opportunity to showcase their abilities on a bigger stage by guiding us back to the Premiership and keeping us there whilst we consolidate.
I believe that the salaries paid in the Championship are in excess of what is being paid in Holland, Germany, France and most of the La Liga clubs in Spain so we should be able to attract someone from these countries.
That said I would like to through a name into the mix of an English manager currently not with a club so presumably available Steve Cotterill, who has a decent track record at lower level. In my opinion a better than the usual suspects of McCarthy, McCleish, Curbishley the two Keanes' Roy and Steve who all would do a good job in the championship but have never achieved in the Premiership.
The only other candidate currently coaching at our level who I would be excited by arriving at Reebok is Gus Poyet.

Nicko special:

Steve Kean has put his name in for the Bolton job - just over a week since he quit at local rivals Blackburn.
Kean wants to get back into the game quickly and has contacted Trotters supremo Phil Gartside to ask to be put on their short-list of contenders to succeed the sacked Owen Coyle.
Gartside is known to be an admirer of Kean, over the way he handled the stick at Rovers during their failed survival fight last season, but the Scot is unlikely to get the gig.
The Bolton chief plans to meet three or four candidates over the next few days before deciding who to go for - with his preference for a young boss and ideally ‘a new Owen Coyle.’
Bolton have been offered out-of-work duo Mick McCarthy and Alex McLeish, but Gartside wants someone with a fresher CV.
The trouble with that is that most of the names on his provisional hit-list including Molde coach and Manchester United hero Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Portsmouth's Michael Appleton and Dougie Freedman of Crystal Palace - are in work and may be beyond reach.

This Keith Hill fella is from Bolton is he? I admittedly don't know anything about him. Is he a fan? His record doesn't say much.

No, the bish. The salutes (more than one). The tattoos (more than one). The published 'fascination' with Mussolini - a 'misunderstood' man. He hasn't celebrated the two decades of repression, violence and war that Mussolini imposed on the people of Italy, Europe and north East Africa. All this is, presumably, part of the 'misunderstanding.thebish wrote:this salute is the basis of all your knowledge about what Di Canio believes?William the White wrote:In detail, no. In essence yes. Already posted. I don't need the detail when I have the essential. The FA though is about to investigate one 'detail'.thebish wrote:

blimey!
But the signals he's given in football grounds to supporters known to include a far right element, the joyful things he's had inked on his flesh, and his articulated sympathy for Il Duce is certainly enough to know his views in essence. And to know I don't want him any where near my club. I'm surprised it isn't for you.

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
This is not going to be a pleasant process. There is nobody out there who we know can come here and turn us around quickly. I would say there is more than 50/50 chance that the next manager will fail. Most of the players, most of the set up are Coyle's. CYL, Petrov, Mark Davies and maybe a couple of others no doubt feel they should be in the Prem and are only here on the premise that we have a much better squad than the rest of this league and that we look a good prospect to go back up straight away, plus probably more importantly, we are still paying them Prem wages. None of these players are currently playing well enough to get us winning games in this league. That maybe down to Coyle's methods, but I can't see the likes of McCarthy or Billy Davies inspiring these players either. We may have to jettison a lot of these players and rebuild with hungrier, cheaper players, and it will be very hard to be successful whilst that process is taking place. Of course us fans and football media are unlikely to be particularly understanding if we are mid table in the championship this time next year.....

Some serious lawyering going on here sir!mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Right, so no swastika?
No swastika, but, this:

Not just a celebration, but one aimed at the Lazio Ultras. He might not be a racist (but plenty of the people he is goading are), he might, tenuously, equate that salute with some Roman ideal, but he's either an idiot (in which case, no ta) or he knows full well the reaction he is likely to bring about. One of those salutes (if not the one in the picture) came from a game against arch rivals and traditionally leftist Roma. Does that face look like that of an interested scholar? He might only be a shithouse provocateur, but it still makes him a shithouse in my book. Again though, not why I don't want him.
He punched his own player (even if not racially motivated as alleged, still, WTF), he subbed his own keeper after twenty minutes (not neccesarily awful until he went public with the criticism and made it all about him, again), he used to just f*ck off from training at West Ham. I'm all for ambition and drive, but he strikes me as the sort of self-centred self-proclaimed eccentric who is entertaining from the outside but who you just do not want to work with, or for.

More than that in fairness. They'd never won the Norweigan League. If that's decent, I'd like to see good.Ianmooreslovechild wrote:officer_dibble wrote:Mccarthys got clubs up before

As I mentioned yesterday. Appleton has been interviewed. Got a few little snippets of info from it.
Club want new manager to work under director of football (Sammy Lee).
New manager should not make too many staff changes as board feel we've got top staff throughout and many are being promoted to senior roles.
Appleton told up front that OGS is first choice should he want it. No direct contact has been made with him as of yesterday afternoon. But concerns over wether or not he'd be happy leaving the bulk of his staff behind.
Mick McCarthy way down the pecking order.
There'll be money to spend in January if we're pushing the top 6.

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
I can't explain exactly why but this option appeals to me, I think it could be a good role for Sammy Lee an older experienced head to assist a younger manager. Plus it would cause less overall disruption/change which could be either a good or bad thing.boltonboris wrote:As I mentioned yesterday. Appleton has been interviewed. Hmm, I'm not sure - as Mavis used to say "I don't really know"!
