I think this sums it up. Never questioned his talent, but often frustrated with his contribution. Right deal for now I'd say.Dr Hotdog wrote:One part of me thinks he's capable of being a match-winner on his day, but those days are few and far between. Another part thinks, this is a relegation battle, and he ain't a battler. So take the money and run.

If we weren't in such a dire financial predicament he'd be worth four or five times that.
Ah well, fck it. Think of the money we'll save on medical bills now.

Would he? Hardly ripped up trees in the championship. Is 27 and injury prone.CrazyHorse wrote:If we weren't in such a dire financial predicament he'd be worth four or five times that.

He's on nearly 20K a week according to John Mcginlay and Iles. So I think shifting the wage is crucial. But I doubt we'd get significantly more than this under any circumstances.
It is a shame as on his day he can be great to watch. I don't think he's had enough days for this to be a particularly bad deal.

I like him and would rather keep him, he's the best player in the team in terms of ability (regardless of consistency) and as has been mentioned already, one of the few who doesn't hide..

He's a saleable asset and a sizeable chunk off the wage bill.
Sad to see him go but no room for sentiment in this situation. He was bought at a time when we were looking to continue the Galacticos legacy. Sadly that didn't pan out.
Now, if true, we can afford to pay the most pressing of the debt to HMRC.
Cut your cloth and all that.

Aye if we weren't broke I'd want to keep him. There are plenty others I'd prefer go ahead of him.
But realistically out of our players who are likely in demand I'd probably rather sell Davies than most of them.

Agreed. But it seems inevitable. Maybe (the 'will they, won't they?' youngsters excepted) the last link with Premiership quality.boltonboris wrote:I like him and would rather keep him, he's the best player in the team in terms of ability (regardless of consistency) and as has been mentioned already, one of the few who doesn't hide..
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Both poor players for me, especially this season. Danns has at least contributed with one or two goals, I guess. Age is against him, though, and he's had his best days.plymouth wanderer wrote:See I think the criticism of him is unjust at times.Jugs wrote:Well anyway. Rather him than Pratley at the minute!
Anyway, a fee has been agreed with Wednesday. "Medical the next step" - Nixon.

It's criminal that the club has got themselves into such a position that they have to sell their best players for a cut-price fee so that they can pay bills.
Re: Spotty's Seriously Sub-standard Second Rate Transfer Thr
Well let's be fair here, no one's going to buy our shite are they? I doubt we'd be able to give some of them away!Jugs wrote:It's criminal that the club has got themselves into such a position that they have to sell their best players for a cut-price fee so that they can pay bills.
Yes you are right, it's obscene the position we are in the only thing creditable in all this is how one of the main perpetrators of this has been left alone due to illness, we can pat ourselves on the back for being reasonably decent.

It is. But at this stage now, it is what it is.Jugs wrote:It's criminal that the club has got themselves into such a position that they have to sell their best players for a cut-price fee so that they can pay bills.
We can't do anything but hope the club survives, ideally in some sort of decent form with a new owner.
One also has to accept that these players have us bottom of the championship. Which means they probably aren't players that we should be all that sorry saying bye to.
Davies is the classic example, great on his day, but if he was truly premiership quality on even a semi-consistent basis he'd not be here still, or we'd be far higher up the table.

See, I'm guilty of having said previously that as supporters it's our job to turn up and support whilst letting others concern themselves with the finances. That, of course, is a little different now.
If we can get some money for Mavies as well as shifting a reported £1.2m pa off of the wages bill then, for a player who's contributing precious little at the moment, that's got to be decent business.
That said, he's probably contributing very little because Lenny keeps sticking him on the left.

Worst thing is, we'll still be footing a chunk of his wages, getting a pittance transfer fee and weakening the team
