A poor referee is a poor referee. He does influence a game & you can try to deflect that at the time. If you fail & that's down to some poor decisions then that should be stated. It's over when it's over .... but it's as valid (assuming it's correct) as blaming a players mistake when that's the case.

I didn't see the game in 2000, and would agree ManU got the benefit of the doubt when playing Real Madrid when Nani was sent off, we can all quote individual examples of mistakes by Refs. Over a season they balance out!

Players can be substituted for a number of reason whilst I agree a yellow card is not reason to substitute someone automatically, It is probably no coincidence that 10 mins after Ricketts was sent off Charlton subbed Gower who was on a yellow for them. If a defender is on a yellow and being skinned consistantly would you not consider subbing him if you had another player of comparable ability on the bench to ensure keeping 11 on the pitch I would.

You haven't answered what 'come back' a referee should suffer for a cock up.

I wasn't asking to have it both ways, My point was in response to a lot of people were posting our defeat was entirely due to the ineptitude of the referee. No doubt he did make mistakes yesterday and will continue to make mistakes in the future! Over the course of a game a referee will make less mistakes than players.

To illustrate my point that we put him in that position of having to make decisions your chances of conceding a penalty are greatly reduced if you play the entire game in the oppositions half. In the same way if you don't put ourselves in the position of needing to make last ditch challenges then we reduce the chances of getting yellow cards.

Whilst I have no doubt the sending off had a major influence on the rest of the match, we were 2-0 up and from there no team should lose, then to lose shows as a team we didn't play in a disciplined enough manner, a point illustrated not only by having 2 players sent of but another yellow carded after the final whistle. Whilst the up side is that it does show a passion and desire it is Dougies job to channel that passion in a positive manner.

The fact remains is we Bolton Wanderers have to accept more b lame over the defeat, than the referee.
