Oh and out of interest Padfield DID recommend Shittu - when Megson was at WBA in the second tier. The scout was laughed out of court. Hmm.

I think that just shows the depths Megson had crawled too! and to think some people on here still like him!!

It mystifies Padfield, too. He'd mentioned Shittu when Megson needed a defender or West Brom in the second tier, although he was aware of Danny's limitations (namely pace and mobility or lack thereof). Megson watched Shittu and told Padfield that the big man wasn't up to it. Like you say, to then take him to the top flight - and not cheap, either - smacks of panic.

I have a backlog of books at the moment but that's on the amazon wishlist for now.

Yeah, bear it in mind. It's not brilliantly written but it's interesting enough, especially to a Bolton fan, and I've just noticed that the author's donating his royalties to charity so that swings it for me - I give it a thumbs-up.
