It mystifies Padfield, too. He'd mentioned Shittu when Megson needed a defender or West Brom in the second tier, although he was aware of Danny's limitations (namely pace and mobility or lack thereof). Megson watched Shittu and told Padfield that the big man wasn't up to it. Like you say, to then take him to the top flight - and not cheap, either - smacks of panic.

Yeah, bear it in mind. It's not brilliantly written but it's interesting enough, especially to a Bolton fan, and I've just noticed that the author's donating his royalties to charity so that swings it for me - I give it a thumbs-up.
