His poor coaching, technical and people skills meant he could utilise those players to their full but there really is no debate in my humble opinion that he got us a brilliant set of players.
How big is a set?

I reckon he could've done a lot better with the amount of money he spent. Most importantly we didn't need to sign Sam Ricketts as a RB when we had Nicky Hunt as cover. We didn't need to sign Paul Robinson at LB when we had Gardner as cover. In fact we overlapped in quite a number of positions and it wasn't until we stopped utilising the likes of JLS and Nicky Hunt that Paul Robinson and Sam Ricketts started getting fully involved as first teamers. Seems like bad decisions to me. We're still reeling from the effects of Megson in that we have players at the club that aren't getting close the first team. Shittu, Riga, etc. are other examples.

No it isn't. Of the current team that is 6th Megson bought 8 of the starting eleven. Of course he could have got better value. With hindsight every single manager ever has 'wasted' money. It's pretty clear to anyone with half a brain he signed good players, they're 6th for feck's sake. What it also highlights is just how poor his managerial skills where when he had said same group of players in 18th. Pea head is a cracking cracking player, but he isn't the difference between 18th and 6th.

Don't know exactly why, but this seemed a fair pictorial description of his gardening abilities.

With a 27% win ratio from 98 matches in charge. Pathetic.

True. The fact that the debt and wage bill exploded under Megson is another blow to the myth that he bought well.

that was no different when allardyce brought folk over from far off lands. And jayloyd for instance is still here.

or when lee bought alonso , cid (although he were allardyces) etc , bwfc just paid them off . - that was under megsons watch, so it'll come under balance sheets for the years megson was here.

all managers have duds in the squads for ages. its partly expected due to risk.

It's those last couple of words where you are mistaken. Allardyce and Lee signed some crap, to be sure, but they were almost always on short term contracts or offloaded fairly quickly. Cesar Martin and Martin Djetou weren't lingering around the reserves for years. Alonso and Wilhelmsson were on loan. We found buyers for Cid, Dzemaili, Braaten, and Helguson.

Sam Ricketts has played in 11 games thus far this season, so he's a bit more than cover. Nicky Hunt has played in 7 for Bristol City, 19th in the Championship. He was also dependable at centre half at times last season.

Paul Robinson is so good that not only has he kept his place under Coyle above the likes of Gardner and Samuel, he's also keeping out our big money summer signing Marcos Alonso. Not bad for a signing many (including me) thought was a case of jobs for the boys.

Both (even though I don't particularly rate Ricketts) turned out to be a significant improvement on what we had. And if you look back, I didn't want us to sign either of them.

Oh dear. Go on, back that up, you absolute cock! Go on!

Sean Davis is a superb midfield player and was without doubt Megson's finest signing, without, of course, the benefit of hindsight.

Bullard's better.

Still.

Anyway, the guy is a shit manager and a third rate human being. I'm sure some feel free to defend him, I can't see the point. We're better off without him. Thats also hindsight.

Sean Davis played in three league games last season and received three yellow cards and one red. I saw him play in the Charleston game. I've never seen anyone kick so many players in a friendly.

Now, I could say something here like "Back up your assertion that he's a 'superb' midfield player, you absolute cock!" but I'm sure I'd get banned while you would once again inexplicably escape punishment for random personal abuse.

And as I suspected, you'd arrive at your absolute cockish assertion that Davis is a poor signing by dint of your lack of knowledge. Once again, up you pop! You didn't see how well he played for Portsmouth, then? Obviously not!

So, I've backed up my assertion, you clever Herbert.

I rate Davis, had he not been injured he would have been an important part of the squad I think
Pfffft.
