Presumably the statue will be cast in bronze so the cost will be in the making of the mould, why not then cast two statues and have one in the town and one at the stadium?

Because, like the man himself, the mould will break after the first cast.

Yeah you're right TD. He deserves it! I only hope it will happen.TANGODANCER wrote:It's a fair point, but it'll be seen one day a week except by cars passing in Horwich. In the town centre, just like Fred's statue, it'll be seen everyday. Outside the ground, who cares what opposition fans think? In my experience of them, sooner or later some idiot will try to deface it. Like has been pointed out, the man was so legendary to Bolton that a statue in each location wouldn't go amiss. I think the town owes him that much.Gaz Tomorrow wrote:Anyone who lives in Bolton knows how important Nat was to the town, he will always be a local legend. Whereas away fans and anyone who visits the ground will appreciate just how much he meant to us if his statue was outside the ground on the grass opposite Horwich Station. He is a fundamental part of what Wanderers now are.

They probably lobbed paint on it thinking 'feck me, I didn't know that Fred Scuttle came from Bolton?!"

Re: Nat Lofthouse statue
they can get rid of that train for me and put a Lofthouse one of equal size!! as for the town centre i think it is important that he was Bolton through and through and not just wanderers. there's two lions on the steps already why not have one we can be proud of?

Sorry, I'm not having a statue of the great man placed between the lions at the town hall.$huttgun wrote:they can get rid of that train for me and put a Lofthouse one of equal size!! as for the town centre i think it is important that he was Bolton through and through and not just wanderers. there's two lions on the steps already why not have one we can be proud of?
The Southampton statue is of Ted Bates, a big hero as player & manager to them, but that's not the one shown. His is much better ;
I have to say tho that, much as I'd like one of Nat at thge Reebok looking at these I can foresee a lot of complaints about it if it's not a good one ; -

Now that is a statue!

That Southampton one was the 're-do' after much public outcry after the unveiling of the one posted above.

With a bit of luck, our art aficionados will get hold of this before we end up with something we can recognise...bobo the clown wrote:It most certainly is ...keveh wrote:Tom Finney - The Splash
