Striker is still by far top priority... and a winger...

We can play NRC RB if all else fails... he became the best right back at the club the day he signed... he doesn't like it but needs must...

Wheater can play RB too, and I'm sure there's been talk of Connolly playing there...

Doesnt sound like a 'horror break' to be fair. With Chungy it was announced straight off he'd be out for 9 months, whereas that report states they'll see how he's going in a month.

Odd though that they've not put a timescale on immediately.

Agreed, sounds like a Holden pre-World Cup break, still 3 months out or so...

Gerrard will probably be out longer with his manky groin.

Everyone heels differently with things like this, so it would be fool hardy to say a couple of months and it take 6 months...

Let's hope it's short term - can't cope with Steinsson playing ten yards out of position for another season

We have one RECOGNISED right back. I'd say that striker is top priority, yes, but not by much from a right winger and a utility defender. We don't have so much in reserve in centre midfield that we can afford to play possibly our best fit centre midfielder at right back.

I still say I wouldn't be surprised to see a deal for SWP pushed through by the end of the week.

Marc Iles reporting he'll be out "a few months":

Former Burnley defender Mears breaks leg
4:20pm Thursday 4th August 2011

By Marc Iles »

TYRONE Mears stands to miss at least the first few months of the season after breaking his leg in training with new club Bolton Wanderers today.

The full-back, who left Burnley last week to reunite with former Clarets boss Owen Coyle, had featured in three pre-season friendlies for Wanderers.

Mears moved to Bolton in a joint deal with winger Chris Eagles.

:(

Min of 3 months is usual for a straight forward break.
I feel reborn !!!! No more confussion

According to Marc Iles it's not as serious as LCY's break...

Such a shame. Would love to hear about the circumstances - presuming either an innocuous challenge or a bad fall.....even someone as thick as Knight wouldn't be that overly aggressive in training....would he?

And you think Mears would have been any better?? Defensively Mears is as bad if not worse than Steinsson... Still a shame for the lad like, but don't let your anti-Steinsson views make you think Mears would have been any better..

truewhite15 wrote:We have one RECOGNISED right back.
It could be argued we have less than that...

My point is that we have options to fill in there. Wheater can do it, NRC can do it, and possibly Connolly but ToM and LL will know better... We have short term cover for a couple of months if Steinsson gets injured...

Right wing?? We have Eagles...
Striker we have possibly Eaves, though if he's to make the grade this year is to be seen...

In short RB is still well down regardless of this news... This aint the end of the world, drink yourself some concrete and toughen the feck up.

The facebook contingent's contribution
"zat knight broke mears leg im well happy to be honnest prefer steinson" :whack:

I rate Riley but he isn't ready for Prem yet and he's much better at going forward than he is at defending in my opinion. Pretty sure Connolly could cover in an emergency.

What the f*ck were we doing training?

This was bound to happen against such poor quality opposition as ourselves. When will Coyle learn.
