The inconsistency is still astounding and the lack of the use of cameras and technology over the whole field is also quite astounding. Even then its not always posible to get the decisions 100% right but al least with the use of technology they would be able to get 99% right in a very short length of time that wouldn't hold the game up too much.

But doing as Tango suggested in his original post wouldn't work and would create more problems than is solved.

Now getting rid of the offside rule would be a different matter, that would be a good move!!
Whats that got to do with biscuits?? :conf:

No it wouldn't!!! It'd make a mockery of every match. You'd need to be playing 20 a side!

Sexist figs?

Get rid of offside and you wouldn't have free-flowing football: defences would retreat, not advance. You'd end up with massive long-ball hoofs between mini-games of five-a-side on each goal-line, contested by brawn rather than brain. And before anybody says that'd be fun, it wouldn't, it'd be shit.

It's getting rid of the "ladies" ( big soft Jessies) in mens' football, that scream and thresh about in the box like they've been attacked by hyenas that it's all about. Matter of fact most ladies teams are a lot less soft than some of the men. I'm as well aware as the next man that penalties will never be got rid of, but the whole point of the first post was being sick of cheating. The game's being ruined by it. Something needs doing.

So do you actually think penalties should be banned from the game? I'm confused...

No, you're not, you're an wonderful chap and you don't do confused just like I don't do provocative posts. Why not express a view of your own maybe on solutions to cheating? Or you could just talk about biscuits. :D

I did - but you only read the biscuits bit...

I am confused about whether you think penalties should be banned. We agree that they won't - but that's not the same as thinking they should - which is what you originally said... (bizarrely - if that's not what you think..)

No it wouldn't it would just spread the game out rather than 20 players all crowding together like kids football. Also, you would not have forwards just standing on the goal line waiting for the ball either. Many offsides are so marginal, and many decisions are so wrong that it just shows that its a law thant needs changing.

Also mate just because you don't agree doesn't make it a shit idea, just a different perception of how the game could be changed for the better.

As to diving, yes retrospective punishments with long suspensions would help to get rid of it.

Banning offsides is a shit idea though. As stated previously, it'd end up with the ball just being smashed from one end to the other. Attackers would push higher and higher up field, and defenders would have to drop deeper and deeper to go with them, which leaves packed out penalty areas at either end and not a lot inbetween. There'd be no place for fast players, and the only skill rewarded would be the ability to win headers.

While we're banning offsides and penalties, why not go the whole hog and use a couple of jumpers for goalposts, and get rid of official kits, playing shirts v skins instead?

Do away with refs for a trial period, say half a season, just have linesmen for throw ins and offsides. Any punch ups allow the bench/managers to join in. All tackles legal.

And have no sides to the pitch - that was ace when you could just keep legging it across the park to stop someone getting the ball off of you. Time to smash a few stands down, me thinks :D
