Re: Advice for Mullayo going to Bolton vs Forrest, Friday Au
Mullayo. I'm finishing work at 12:30 ish tomorrow. I'll meet you in Town (Manchester) for a couple if you want at about 1:30-2. Never too early..
I'm going up to the Reebok with the missus about 5:30, so if anybody is going into Fanzone, I'll be meeting Batman / Lofthouse lower and possibly HRG at about 6

I've never seen those two in the same place, at the same time. Strange but true.boltonboris wrote:Mullayo. I'm finishing work at 12:30 ish tomorrow. I'll meet you in Town (Manchester) for a couple if you want at about 1:30-2. Never too early..

Will he be carrying a rolled up copy of the Times and wearing a pink carnation?
Might give it a try - never done a "fanzone" before.

Re: Advice for Mullayo going to Bolton vs Forrest, Friday Au
Hey guys this is just a big thanks to all for your advice and making me feel welcome at my probably only ever Bolton game.
Cheers especially to Boris who stood stoically outside Picadilly station nodding/winking??? at strangers as the hordes descended from London town for Queer Pride weekend! Maybe he was going to be there anyway? Who knows... He took me to a cool ye olde pub for a few and we saw the Mayor who looks like Sam Allardyce or Big Sam acts like him - chicken and egg.
Then I met my London-based mate and we went to Scotts for a couple then the store for some souvenirs and finally the Fanzone where I was delighted to catch up with not only heavily pregnant Ms Boris but the elusive Batman, his best mate Lofthouse Lower, HRG??? and the one and only Worthy one! We should have won the quiz too. If only they'd listened to me and put Gudni Bergsson for all the answers...
Game view was awesome from almost halfway on the West Upper stand. We should have won, no confidence to make that last pass always bailing out back to the keeper then losing the ball later anyway -better to lose it a long way in front with men behind than bringing it forward which cost us two goals not being able to regroup.
For me, Lee was far and away the best, followed by Zat and Andrews tied. Zat took care of every problem came his way, he's more suited to the pace of this league. What he should do is get out of his comfort zone and dominate opponents, especially at corners. Andrews is not an out and out defensive midfielder but would accompany one well, he chips in on d and tries to open things up and was clearly exhorting the troops/troupes when times got tough - not SKD who was given man of the match for what? Next best was Eagles who tried a lot of things and about half of them came off.
Problem was Mavies is a bit anonymous, he's a luxury we can't afford sell him for $5m or swap him for Palacios or someone destructive of that ilk that Andrews can work with.
If we have to play 4-4-2, Sordell and Afobe for me. Sordell and SKD doesn't click. Afobe is a bit lazy but has something for sure. SKD is a ref magnet. Sordell is an Olympic hero, easy choice.
RANDOM DRUNKEN THOUGHTS: Subs too late. Play should run through Lee. Ricketts has lost a little confidence. Mear cat can't cross or defend rather see Alonso and Ricketts back on the right. SKD is the odd one out in some of our pretty build up like taking a shire horse to a dressage comp. Ream doesn't win the last man contested headers he has to, so is a weakling/weaklink. Bogdan is decent, no dramas getting rid of Jussi. No-one talks enough, without all the Nolan/Reo rah-rah nonsense they go into their shell to easily and lose confidence really quickly. Leadership is a real issue, plenty of talent. give the reins to Andrews. This is a problem when the last two obvious captains Reo + Andrews are both newbies. Shows character isn't enough of a priority that Big Sam made it. Fighters first, football players second should be our motto. Sell Mavies play Vela if we have to. 4-5-1 would suit our talent a lot more. Petrov, Eagles/Mavies, Lee across the front supporting Sordell/N'gog then Afobe.
Thanks again I had a great time in greater Manchester and would love that it be more regular!

Lancashire man. Just because some government idiot got carried away with his pencils and a map it doesn't mean we have to pay attention to him

The old boundaries of Lancashire were never actually formally disbanded. So technically speaking (I'm sure bish will love this touch of pedantry), we gained Greater Manchester, but never lost Lancashire. We have both. Bully for us.

Be interesting to see what a World Atlas will look like in 2050. ( I'll not be around to see it, mind ). As for us, with budgets shrinking by the minute, we'll probably all be part of Greater Halliwell Road.
