On the evidence of tonite, and lets be honest he's not going to change it, it would be a MF of Lee Andrews Spearing Eagles. Sounds pretty decent to me.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Reckon Lk is about right and should Spearing come in Mavis may well be on his way. Mind you if he carries on in a midfield two for much longer we wont get buttons for him

This role worked for Makelele because he was dishing the ball five yards to Frank Lampard or Arjen Robben. Spearing might be able to break up play but if he's giving the ball to Pratley or Kevin Davies, he's just going to have to break up play again seconds later.
Disingenuous comparison, and I think you know it: Pratley isn't in the first team, and KD isn't a winger. A closer comparison would be "if he's giving the ball to Mark Davies or Chung Yong Lee", but you didn't say that because it rather weakens your point.

Spearing isn't an all-rounder, but we ain't gonna get many of them flocking to the Reebok. I find Coyle's chase for him intriguing because it seems to point to shoring up midfield with an extra body, as arguably does the way he's played CYL and Eagles in the last two games - switching wings and coming in off them to support the attack. Note also that the rather more one-dimensional 'old-fashioned' wingers Wylde and Petrov have stayed on the bench for the entirety of those games. Interesting, Brian.

They may not be apples-to-apples comparisons but I think the point stands. I don't think we have the quality that allows a player to play a pure holding role. I don't think Muamba, bless his heart, lived up to his price tag for this very reason.

does he ballz. 451 home , away whatever.

we'll need them all.

coyle'll try with his prefered 3-1-6 formation to get the squad midfielders down to two people.

but, i know we'll need all the 7-8 ? fit ones. espesh when the new guy* comes in.

*i mean coyles replacement.

Let's bear in mind yon 'can only tackle Spearing' scored a hattrick against us in a ressies game not that long ago. Though in fairness I think Makakula scored for us. Looks like a 'decent 'un', I'd be interested at the right price.

that's all we need!! Bolton close to signing Spearing - but Prufrock nips in and offers him a better deal at the last minute....

I reckon Pratley may well prove quite useful over the season. He is more likely to get the odd goal at this level and may manage to build a bit of confidence. Can see him getting on from the bench a few times and should we ever switch to a midfield 5 he could play a part.

I hope Coyle didn't see that game.. He'll probably play him in the hole behind Davies and Sordell!
