Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: If you could pick six players...
Weird, Bobes, I was just counting 'em myself. According to my instruments:
Spearing 19
M Davies 18
Tierney 17
Medo 17
Hall 14
Eagles 13
Baptiste 12
Beckford 5
Ream 5
Bogdan 3
Holden 3
Lee 3
Lonergan 2
Lester 1
Mills 1
Ngog 1
Pratley 1
Putting that into a (4-2-3-1) formation with popularity in brackets, you can see the strengths and weaknesses:
.............................Bogdan (3)
Baptiste (12) Mills (1) Ream (5) Tierney (17)
................Spearing (19)...Medo (17)
Eagles (13).............Mavies (18)............Hall (14)
.............................Beckford (5)
Subs: Lonergan (2), Holden (3), Lee (3), Pratley (1), Ngog (1), Lester (Dan)
Some interesting stuff there. Barring the two summer full-back signings, only six votes for defenders - and only five for goalkeepers (well, six, with Boris's "either" vote). A big drop-off from Baptiste (12) to Beckford and Ream (5). One vote for Pratley, who's scored a quarter of our goals thus far. No votes from the most vocal Freedman naysayers, although they may be scared that if they express a positive opinion someone might think they're not tough. But there's widespread trust in a core group of players, most of all a midfield triangle of Spearing, Medo and Mavies, with a strong backing for Tierney and very honourable mentions for Hall and Eagles. Now, I wonder what would happen if we included the loanees...?

Re: If you could pick six players...
I guess Feeney would get some votes. I like him, but we need to be sure ths isn't a (very bright) flash in the pan.
McNaughton would certainly be up there ... with Tierney out that'd be a gimme I guess
Danns, a bit early to say.
On the out-loans ... Andrews and Sordell being the prime ones (see how soon Eaves gets forgotten) They'd be worth a place on the bench I guess.
I'd still like to see Clough on that bench.

People would rather have Spearing than a fit Holden in their team?? My god, that's like binning off a Tunnocks caramel wafer and eating a Digestive instead!!

i'm not really sure we were being offered a "fit Holden" - we were just being offered Holden - with all the uncertainty still attached!

I hope that the guy can get back to fitness but it'd be stupid to include him in any long-term plans until we get some evidence he can play again.

I'd give Bish's right arm to have the Holden we had pre Johnny Evans but at the second I fear we will never see that again. So dealing with what we have, rather than may have, it's Spearing.
To be honest, I'd think it'd be Medo's place he'd gun for but it's all moot for now.

Re: If you could pick six players...
It was the one that named a starting XI and then him on the bench that confused me. If he's fit, he gets in my team before everybody else.

Re: If you could pick six players...
It is an interesting selection. The electorate clearly like our midfield, even though I'd struggle to think of many recent games we've dominated or been regularly creative in that area. Holden & Mavies are a bit of a fingers crossed job and really show how fate has been a bit of a nice person with Bwfc. I must be watching a different Baptiste than everyone else. Good to see the more creative trio of eagles, mavies and hall.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Weird, Bobes, I was just counting 'em myself. According to my instruments:

Out of the loanees - its really too soon but quite like the look of feeney. mcnaughton seemed solid enough but does make me think about the release of ricketts.

No way! Fingers crossed Mavis comes back stronger than ever and performs well without injury over a whole season. Since it's a big if - it has to be Eagles - one of our few, nay only, creative and goal scoring player.thebish wrote:swap Mavis for Eagles and we have a deal...Harry Genshaw wrote:Eagles (Those of you who didn't pick him, give your heads a shake)

See, already wondering if I would keep Baptiste over Tierney.Enoch wrote:Could do this again tomorrow and doubtless the list would be different.

Sorta interesting that permacrock Mavies got 13, and permacrock Holden only 3. If they both came back "as they were" and I had to pick one, it'd be Holden every time for me.bobo the clown wrote:This, really.thebish wrote:i'm not really sure we were being offered a "fit Holden" - we were just being offered Holden - with all the uncertainty still attached!boltonboris wrote:People would rather have Spearing than a fit Holden in their team?? Re: If you could pick six players...
Difference for me is that Holden has managed half a dozen games between serious injuries. Mavies gets a few extra games in before inevitable injury. A choice between the 2, fully fit and injury free is easily Holden.Worthy4England wrote:Sorta interesting that permacrock Mavies got 13, and permacrock Holden only 3. You're just remembering all them perfectly weighted thru balls, that Supa Kev then banged away...won't work anymore coz Kev isn't here.Wandering Willy wrote:Oi

Re: If you could pick six players...
Pretty big if for Holden I fancy; Davies on the other hand will have hopefully played a dozen or more games before the end of this term. As things stand Davies has a more realistic chance of being at his best come next August.Worthy4England wrote:If they both came back "as they were" and I had to pick one, it'd be Holden every time for me.
