Re: Forest match thread
BW twitter quoting Dougie's pre-match presser:
"We need to keep performing at the same standards, starting games at the right tempo."
"Billy has built up a good squad at Forest, but we know we can compete with teams like these."
"We're fully prepared. We're all good on the injury front and are in a good shape after a busy Christmas period."
"The transfer window will get going right towards the end of the month. We're obviously looking for defenders."
"Fans love a cup run. We showed last season how much our cup run helped us. We kicked on after beating Sunderland."

Re: Forest match thread
The quotes are somewhat out of context, so it depends what standards he means. Considering the subsequent clause I'd say he's referring to the first half against Blackpool, about which even our churls struggled to complain.

Have faith! I took the other half to her first game vs Everton in the FA Cup last season. We lost, but then she started wanting to come to league games, starting with Burnley at home. She came to every home game after that, and has a season ticket alongside me this time out!Athers wrote:Taking the girlfriend to football for the first time tomorrow as she wants to know why I have a painting of Nat Lofthouse in my living room.
Her previous football experience is, incredibly, as follows,
Flamengo-Fluminense derby in Rio
Boca-River derby in Buenos Aires
Man United - Bolton. (3-0)
Doing some exams at the Reebok.
It'll be similar to these experiences I'm sure. More likely to be the second two though. But colder. I don't expect it to be a regular thing.
Now she's starting to wonder why she's paying to be cold, wet and mostly depressed, but I tell her it's all part of being a Wanderer...

I grimaced at that quote. It probably caused an explosion at Facebooks officesBruce Rioja wrote:"We need to keep performing at the same standards". Is he on fecking drugs?

I looked at the list of quotes and thought to myself no-one could have a problem with any of those. Wrong again!boltonboris wrote:I grimaced at that quote. The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Half full/half empty, Armchair Wanderer.
We generally see what we want to see.

Re: Forest match thread
Like DSB says it depends on context. He does have form for claiming performances that the rest of us don't see. If he's referring to last sat then fine. I like the FA cup quote, spot on.

You're happy for us to "keep performing at the same standards"? Fair enough.Armchair Wanderer wrote:I looked at the list of quotes and thought to myself no-one could have a problem with any of those. Aye, if Knight hadn't had his fun against Boro we'd be 3 wins out of 4
The defeat against a team that's flying
The worst performance of the games we didn't lose was at Barnsley
The best performance of those three was against Boro

I'm not expecting much tomorrow, but I think Billy C̶a̶s̶p̶a̶r̶ Davies is a proper annoying cnut. He makes me want to kill his kestrel and put it in the bin and I abhor cruelty to animals. I also despise Andy Reid after his antics in August and want him targeted by our boys to get him the red card he should have had in that game.
So in summary I will love it, love it if we beat them.

Our Maud's first game was Chelsea at home the year we went down. 4-0 down after 27 minutes. Oddly, she didn't really catch the bug.truewhite15 wrote:Have faith! Bolton Wanderers set to revert to one striker as Dougie Freedman speaks out against those who obsess about 4-4-2
If we end up sitting deep again and giving Forest time and space to dominate midfield then the tide could and should really turn against him.
He's sticking to a plan that only works in his head and can't get the players on board. I have a bad feeling it's going to be another one of those educational days.
I think he's decided Forest are better than us and we're going to play like we're away at Bayern Munich.
But hey, let's hope I'm wrong and it finally clicks with the players.

Well he's right!
There are plenty folk who seem to think our woes would disappear if he just wrote the names down in a different order.

Re: Forest match thread
He may well have a point, he certainly has nore coaching experience than mere fans. it's just that he comes over as a long-winded version if Megson. If I were his mentor I'd advise him not to give press conferences or to keep them very short as whenever he opens his gob he proceeds to put his foot in it.
I'd mind less if he was telling us all this from a position of strength. 2 home league wins since April sort of reduces his ability to turn to the fans and say "people who know football" ... as does the frequency with which he stands his ground so strongly and minutes later does precisely the thing he was criticising.
.. & yes, again he will spend the whole match worrying about Forest instead of contemplating having them worry about us. Who knows .... we may perform well. We may even win.
I suppose I've just lost it with him.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
