How many of those players do Palace and Cardiff have? You know the sides who are leading this division.....boltonboris wrote:I agree, especially when there's a platitude of 26yo defenders who have played for the likes of Inter, United and Arsenal queueing round De Havilland way to come and play for us on the cheap.BWFC_Insane wrote:I'm not sure 35 year old has bees looking for a last pay day are necessarily what we need.
We need a leader at the back and I'm far from convinced silvestre is that type.

I always thought, ironically, that the correct word was a 'ream' of central defenders.

What have they got to do with anything? He's experienced, willing to play for us. PROVEN and available. If the price is right, who gives a crap about his intentions.BWFC_Insane wrote:How many of those players do Palace and Cardiff have? We have enough players who have lots of top flight experience.boltonboris wrote:What have they got to do with anything? He's experienced, willing to play for us. PROVEN and available. They are not exactly helping us right now.
I just don't think he's the right sort of signing for us.

Why not? I'm absolutely positive than he'd be better than Ream and Mills.

I am pretty sure that if he is gash then Duggie will not sign him, if in his opnion, which is the one that matters by they way he can do a good job and provide good competition for what what we have then he will try and sign him.
That is what boris is saying and as such I think that he is totally correct.

No it isn't. Jason Roberts did well in the championship...but so is Kev.the-Bowtun-Warrior wrote:Shame Jason Roberts is playing for Reading.
Said for months that his type would fire us up this league.
But no, we continue with the 78 years old skipper.
The '78 year old skipper' in reality is only 1 year older than Jason Roberts. There goal scoring record in recent championship spells is also near identical with Roberts grabbing 6 in 17 games and Kev with 6 in 20.
We desperately need to buy a goal scorer come January, preferably one that is young and with a bit of place to play ALONGSIDE Kev/Ngog. We don't need Jason Roberts.

January Action Plan...
Sell Sordell to a London club.
Sell Petrov to low-ish Prem side.
Sell Mark Davies to Swansea.
Sell Alonso to somewhere in Europe.
Sell Pratley.
Sell Ream.
Holden and Wheater coming back.
Buy Warnock £1M-ish.
Buy left-sided midfield player.
Buy forward(s).
We could even make a profit!!

Still don't think Mark Davies should go any where until at least summerArmchair Wanderer wrote:January Action Plan...

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
The priority should be a goal scoring striker. Someone like Guidetti, who you know will always be in the right place and has the ability to put chances away. The rest of the first team and squad is fine, but a proper goal scorer is lacking. Jordan Rhodes has 11 goals in 17 games for Blackburn, and he doesn't get great service with them. If he was with us, I think he'd be a goal a game striker, which would turn our season around completely.
The keeper is fine, the defence is fine, the midfield is fine...we have good cover up front, but we need more goals from whoever starts.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
I thought the team who played against Huddersfield for 90 mins (only one enforced sub) was fine after they (presumably) got shouted at at halftime. A goalscorer up front would be all we need, and maybe a left-sided midfielder, so I'm thinking of some ways we could fund that. Plus, having a new manager he'll presumably want to clear out a bit.SmokinFrazier wrote:The priority should be a goal scoring striker. I think thebish was saying Dougie had changed his tune from being negative about the squad to being positive. Apart from anything we need to be making happy noises if we want to make any money from selling players in Jan.
It sounds like Mavies is the only player who's getting any interest whatsoever so I'd make some cash from him, esp with Holden coming back and Petrov able to play on the left.
If Dougie doesn't like Petrov get rid, replace with a speedy, Kakuta-type loan or buy replacement with proceeds, if any.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Freedman didn't do to bad at Palace getting Glenn Murray on a free. He is currently top scorer in the league along with Charlie Austin on 18 goals.
