I've read much more positive reports on Houghton, but it matters little if he's staying there. We move on.
Well yon Pilgrims don’t think it’s guaranteed he actually signs the contract, so he may still be in play.
OK, cheers, that's interesting - he gives off the 'club and family man settled in the area' vibe. He's also a lifelong southerner – Surrey-born, Chelsea-academy-reared, only other parent clubs are MK and Plymouth, although he did have two six-month loans at Donny.

I guess it depends whether he figures the new manager isn't keen – but Muslic has picked him in the matchday squad for 20 of 21 Champo games, starting him in 11 and bringing him on in 7... and he is being offered a contract.

PRESTON
Released: Emil Riis, Freddie Woodman, Kian Best, Kian Taylor, Patrick Bauer, Ryan Ledson
Returned loanees: Kaine Kesler-Hayden, Jayden Meghoma, Ryan Porteous, Sam Greenwood
Contracts offered: Ched Evans (coaching role), Josh Seary, Kacper Pasiek, Robbie Brady

Woodman is the keeper supposedly targeted by Yoonited.
Riis is a striker, eyed by Sunderland and Sheff U.
Ledson is a heart-on-sleeve midfield grafter. 28 in August, he's Scouse-born, Everton-reared, moving to Oxford in 2016 then PNE in 2018, where he was Player of the Year in 2020/21. Also the boyfriend of Coronation Street's Bethany Platt, if that means anything to you. Local press: "He will not be short of suitors and whoever secures his signature will get total commitment, old-school bite and raw passion."
Bauer is a 6ft4 centre-back, 33 in October, solid in the air, who's not just won promotion from this division but grabbed it himself with a 94th-minute winner on the play-off final for Charlton in 2019. All good, but he's only played 2 games last season, 2 games the season before and 8 the one before that.
Best is a young defender, who came through as a leftback/leftwingback and has played on the left of a back 3. Left-footed Lancastrian, 20 in August and thus still underage for the next two seasons. Sign for the Bs, maybe?
Taylor is another local 20-year-old, who's played in the centre of defence and midfield in his 13-year PNE career. Recently loaned to Alty. Another Bs option, perhaps.

A no nonsense central midfielder, just released from a local club, who’s a product of Everton’s academy, you say? Hmmm…

I liked the look of the lad at Doncaster, Teddy Sharman-Lowe who saved a penalty last weekend. On loan from Chelsea, I thought another loan a division up in a more pressurised environment might give us a shout but alas, Google says they want him playing Championship football next season.

FLW saying we are in for TSL. I think Chelsea owe us a loan? :D

Maybe he'll come back in a blaze of title winning glory, fulfilling the prophecy.

That could be next year's coronation's treat.

Interesting (and frankly heartening) to hear us linked with loaning young keepers. I do think we might see him prefer to stay at Donny - same division as us, he’s done well there, and perhaps likely to be busier there than here (you’d hope) - but his club may want him to vault to the Champo. He’s 22, it’s five years since they first loaned him to Burton, and his contract is up next summer so they may be in a rush to see how valuable he is.

LUTON
Released:
• Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu – 31, midfielder, won four promotions with them.
• Amari’i Bell – 31-year-old LB/LWB who has, guess what, converted to also play LCB. Ex Fleetwood & Blackburn.
• Tim Krul - goalie. 37.
• Jameson Horlick - goalie, 22, revelling in the full name Jameson Edward Alexander Horlick. Hasn't played above tier 6.
• Victor Moses - yeah that one. 34. Was said to be on £25,000 a week, although that could very well be absolute guesswork.
• Dion Pereira - winger, 26, who's spent the last two season on loan in tier 5.

A good player. A Jamaican international. More of a LB than a LWB. Can play central. We would have done well if we were able to sign him. Solid.

There's some suggestion online that we might've agreed a compensation package to sign Sean Roughan from Lincoln City.

LB/CB, 22-years-old, an impressive amount of experience in this league for his young age.

I was surprised to see Mpanzu on loan at Rotherham when the Millers rocked up at ours a few weeks ago. Evidently got some stuff about him to have played so consistently at so many levels for Luton. Wouldn't turn him down. Amari'i Bell too.

Tim Krul has experience by the bucket load. Worth a 1 season deal?

Pete O’Rourke, usually reliable, is saying “An unnamed club have agreed a compensation package with Lincoln for defender Sean Roughan, who is out of contract next month, and he has been given permission to hold talks over a potential move” but notes that “A number of Championship and League One clubs have shown interest in Roughan.” So it could be anyone…

Nixon is reporting that Schuey’s old mate Jimmy Dickinson will be joining us from Plymouth, where he has been Head of Recruitment for the past few years.

All a bit like a Three Musketeers reunion , all a bit older (and hopefully wiser) and just waiting for D'artagnan to ride in on a shire horse. Three 'o'clock behind the Cathedral then, All for one and one for all. :Jedi: ... :oyea:

Yeah heard this a fair while ago from a friend I have down there - apparently he’s on gardening leave for his notice period. Our resident mole maybe knows more.

But this is maybe a clue that Schumacher will be heavily dictating recruitment.
