Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

£60K per week. It worked out at £100k when you factor in his signing on fee. But his base salary was £60k with a £2 Million lump sum (apparently)TKIZ! wrote:Cheers OJJ, I'll have a quick scan at the article.ohjimmyjimmy wrote:No, their unwanted players are all overpaid, i would imagine.
(i think DSB did an article about it a few weeks ago?).
A lot of the top teams have overpaid players, wasn't Jovanovic on £100k a week?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011 ... -transfers" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; As John W Henry, the club's principal owner, said recently: "The worst surprise [following FSG's takeover last October] was the lack of depth in the squad. Our biggest concern in taking on this responsibility was this issue and it was a bigger issue than we feared. There was a huge multi-year payroll for a squad that had very little quality depth."
The free signings Joe Cole and Milan Jovanovic, for example, earn £100,000 and £120,000 a week at Liverpool respectively, although the latter's astonishing salary includes a signing-on fee payable over the first 12 months of his contract
Astonishing

The season starts in 17 days and about 2 hours - not that there's any need to panic

I'm thinking page 7 on my much more successful yet soon to be shutdown for a well deserved rest thread! 3/7 or 4/217? You do the math(s)!mighty_whites wrote:I'm thinking page 217!! Defo and that will be all three signings of eagles mears and NRC.
BTW the NFL just signed the CBA (collective bargaining agreement) and yesterday my beloved Jacksonville Jaguars - the Bolton of the NFL - signed 25 players in one day (24 undrafted free agents and one regular free agent ILB Paul Posluszny for a 6-year US$45m deal.
It must be some sort of record and puts TKIZ's thread to even more shame.

I didn't write an article, just attracted attention to their wage bill - via the piece to which Mr Lofthouse Lower has kindly linked.
In truth we'd be more likely to be interested in Liverpool's younger talents, but Dalglish seems to want these in the squad. Wouldn't shock me to see us arrange a year's loan for someone, depending where we're short in late August.

That kind of thing, aye, but likesay I reckon OC will save the loans to plug (any) gaps rather than tee them up now

Well, seeing as I asked ....boltonboris wrote:Wasn't it Hodgson? I can't be arsed checking....
So, looks like he was pre-conbtracted by the prick .... but then actually signed on after he'd gone.Jovanović joined Liverpool F.C. on 8 July 2010 on a free transfer.
There had been speculation he would renege on the pre-contract agreement that he had signed after Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez resigned in June 2010.
Benítez was reported to be anxious to bring the player to his new club Internazionale, but Jovanović confirmed his intention to honour his contract
10 games. Wow !!

I see Bolton as more of an Atlanta or a Houston. Maybe with our record of taking troubled players and turning them into gold we could be a Cincinnatti or in the past we might have been the hard-hitting team no-one wants to play against like Baltimore.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Apparently we're interested in Michael Turner from Sunderland.
