Re: All off to Ashton Gate!
Just googled. Vaguely recognise the name, but would never have remembered him.
Re: All off to Ashton Gate!
His one appearance in a game we won comfortably doesn't stick too close to the front of the memory.

I've just been off on a wild google chase & I can't find out his name (Finnish keeper not Jussi). Put me out of my misery someone?

Me neither.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: All off to Ashton Gate!
bishometer player ratings...
Boggers... not at his best - flapped one onto the top netting whilst making it look like he'd dropped it... totally misjudged one cross/shot that could easily have sailed into the top corner as he stumbled and it sailed over his head - inches.. INCHES!! but he DID make a fantastic brave 1-on-1 block-save to rescue us from a certain equaliser after Knight calamitously stuffed up a straightforward clearance - preferring to scuff it to their striker...
Knight - I have often defended him - but, today - back to his calamitous worst... a shambles..
Dawson - immense - inspires confidence - just clears stuff up - no fuss - no nonsense - makes it look easy...
Ricketts - got some abuse from a not-right sat next to me - but didn't do much wrong - filled a hole adequately
Alonso - still a bit scary if someone wit pace runs at him - but then - that has always been the case with our left-backs!! linked up will with eagles and chungy down the left - the three of them being our axis of attacking creativity... he seems to have bulked/muscled up a bit since i last saw him live - he's not so easily pushed off the ball - plays like he cares, which is a nice sign!
Eagles - does what he does well - yes, he's a pretty boy, but without him, we'd have had not much attacking creative threat - had a good game
Chungy - getting back to the player we once knew - doesn't hold back - thought he'd smashed his leg twice - once chasing a lost cause - leg first into the hoardings - once sliding in for a 50-50 with a bloke 4 times bigger than him... was always busy - always has ideas - always trying summat - a joy to watch today
Spearing - does the simple stuff well - takes the ball - moves it on - doesn't give it away - makes himself available.. we were so much flakier and brittle when he went off
Medo.. not as good a spearing today - faded in and out of the game..
Pratley - didn't see his role in the goal - it was miles away at the other end - but he didn't have a great day. yes - he's busy and runs about a lot - but he gives the ball away far too easily...
Ngog - WHY CAN'T HE JUST PUT HIS FOOT THROUGH THE BALL???? a few times he manufactured a shooting opportunity only to deliver EVERY FECKING TIME a cushioned backpass to their goalkeeper.. WHY???? Bristol City had a few shots - most of them wide of the mark - but they were all travelling fast at the time and were not straight at the goalie!! i haven't looked at the stats but i imagine it says we had a few shots on target... well - we did - but hardly any of them were even remotely challenging for the goalie...
Sordell... game didn't suit him today - beginning to wonder what game does... he doesn't hold the ball up - he doesn't skin fullbacks - when he does get a shot - he panics... (well - he did today) - he's easily knocked off the ball... looked out of his league today - and it was BRISTOL CITY!!!
Cravies - didn't have that long - but put himself about nicely - was a physical presence we hadn't had until he came on - and he had the balls to smack the penalty in! (he had a couple of other shots - but exactly the same as Ngog - cushioned backpasses... argghhhh!!!)
basically, today - we had a good ten mins at the start - didn't see the details of the goal - it was miles away - BUT - the build ip looked ace - slick one-touch passing and movement which made you think we had finally cracked it and were going to go on and totally boss the game..
far from it... once we had scored we turned to shoite and were lucky to go in 1 up
then after the break - caught napping... this used to be blamed on Coyles H/T talks - I guess Dougie's H/T talks are no better... didn;t see the details - was up the other end - but it lookeed wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too easy..
the penalty WAS a penalty - but I'm glad it came - cos had he not been fouled - there was NO WAY Ngog was gonna score - he looked like a bunny caught in the headlights - he was relieved to have been fouled - and didn't run up asking to take the spot-kick! (as far as I saw!)
it wasn't pretty - we did NOT look organised or to have any decent shape... if Bristool had had their shooting boots on - we could have been 3-1 down at H/T... at the end they threw the kitchen sink at us - and their goalie was a coat of paint away from a goal... we got lucky - but - hey - who cares - we fecking won!!

Alonso needs kneeing in the groin for that first goal.

as i said - i didn't see the detail of their goal - it was miles away - so anything that happened then doesn't count!

Just seen it on MOTD. Alonso sure got sold the dummy grand style. More worrying was the space they had to just nod it in unchallenged. Real soft goal.thebish wrote:CAPSLOCK wrote:Not a bad account but Alonso gets off lightly for giving them a goal

Re: All off to Ashton Gate!
Alonso just cocked up a simple pass. It's frustrating but it happens. Knight's actions are more worrying because he should have assessed the danger and done something about it, but instead, he just lumbered back and didn't pay any attention to their striker. Alonso is guilty of a mistake, Knight is guilty of useless defending.
Knight did something which really annoys me from defenders. A ball went under his feet, which he should have blocked, and went near their strikers arm, but instead of reacting like a defender should, Knight's first instinct was to appeal for a free kick because of a handball. It's nonsense. A referee is going to give a free kick if he sees it, not if a play sticks his hand up. Instead of trying to defend properly, the clueless, inept Knight raises his arm and showed no attempt to win the follow up. That's unforgivable and I'm just glad it didn't cost us a goal.
He really is a terrible player and I'm not sure what people see in him. Then again, those same people insist he poses a goal threat on corner and free kicks, despite all evidence proving the opposite.
