We may well be doing a disservice to Taylor and Tutte here. Who knows what roles the three of them were playing behind the scenes.
New fella might wann contemplate, which of them knows how defending works... :-)
I think we might be in for some issues with some fans - moaning about the performance Tuesday compared to the last few Evatt games. Seen in a few places. I mean I think people have calibrated to judge a performance solely on possession. Anything else like I don’t know, defending (which surely is at least half if not more than half of the performance) and scoring goals seem to not matter.

To me everything that is wrong and has been wrong with us can be summed up with the idea that possession matters without context. Cos it really really doesn’t.

Almost as ridiculous as blaming Santos for Tuesday's defending

I don’t think it’s as binary as you’re making out. Darby himself described the second half on Tuesday as ‘torture’, and I’m sure he’d have liked a bit more control.

Yeah like I said you could poke holes in it. But we never came close to conceding second half and defended incredibly well. Teams that go up will put in plenty of backs to the walls performances because they can. They often did so against us.

We spent premiership seasons doing exactly that. Get in the lead. Kill the game. Yes we might like to have made more second half and nobody says it was perfect or vintage. But we need to start judging more in a much more rounded way than worrying about possession. If we have 30% of the ball it doesn’t matter if we do more with that than the opposition do with their 70%.

The trouble with Evatt and his style was we might have most of the ball but every time a team attacked or won a set piece we looked like we might concede. And most of our possession was toothless.

Darby showed how to play a side who come and sit back. We created way more with less of the ball. Way more than we ever would playing the old sideways and backwards possession stuff. But most crucially for the most part looked very hard to score against. Especially once we’d sorted out early issues.

I'd be more worried about getting binned by the club when the next manager arrives if I was JD. Hopefully not. When someone new goes in there is the immediate clearance of coaches, then over the following year there's sometimes more that leave. If he's doing a good job, someone like JD from the same area, should be independent of whoever the manager is. Especially if someone is needed to fill in again.
Which is exactly why he didn’t throw his hat into the ring (publicly anyway).

A new manager comes in with somebody already at the club who wanted that job. The old one isn’t lasting long!

I don’t know anything but think it’s pre match press this afternoon. I assume that’s about now and that stuff usually goes out about 5 ish doesn’t it?

I’m guessing without any knowledge at all that the managerial announcement might be later than 5 or even not till tomorrow…hasitbindun?

Well Evatt was never going to describe "fannying about at the back" the same way, if we did it for 90 minutes, was he? It would've been "off brand!"

Key questions are still outstanding in relation to the first interview...

Club size: Big, massive, huge? I'm going with a big club
Type of engagement: "immediate task ahead" or "a project." Here I think I'll go with immediate job/task
Current position: below where we should be, bang on target, having a great season....below where we should be
Squad: Pub players, not bad for league 1, talented individuals....I'll go with talented individuals...

Any more?

I think he'll get asked about style of football and he will keep his options open but say something about getting the fans off their seats

Might get asked back three or four and will bat it off

Something about Wembley and making up for losing to us there, will say obviously want to win every game but the prime objective is promotion as soon as possible

"Looking forward to working with Sharon and Chris rather than oatcake-covered backstabbers?" "I've been really impressed with the way they've spoken, it's an exciting place to come"

"Sleeping giant" / "huge potential"
"Take this club to where it should be"
"Fantastic fan base"
"Make the Toughsheet a fortress" (he will actually call it the Reebok before being corrected)

Fans off their seats was a Stokensianism, I think! :-)

I was going to start a discussion on this the other day after I watched his unveiling at Stoke video. He just went through all the usual platitudes there. Which is a shame because it made him look like he didn't actually have much to say.

My guess for here would be:
"The factilities are great." "The facilities of a club that should be in the higher divisions." "Fantastic ground." "Tough place to come."
Agree with "get the fans off their seats". Probably with some added "tough to beat but expansive attacking football".

I really loved how he added "and obviously the fans here are great" after spending about 10 minutes talking about Stoke's training ground and stadium. And then immediately followed it up with "Great stadium".

Edit: Here's that video -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8NNWUUkm9Y&t=35s

We're talking like it's a done deal. Is it a done deal??

I think most newly appointed managers these days are given a script to follow by the media team with some key points. If.....IF we get an announcement, I'm betting "18000 ST holders for a League one club" and "JJ Okocha" come into the mix.

‘Massive club’ is obligatory these days. If it’s just ‘big club’ then it’s an insult.
