Re: Freedman out!
According to the radio earlier all was well at Palace last week. If sacked after one game was ridiculous, sacked before (a day and a half before) the first game is also fairly ridiculous.
You'd have thunk that someone would've known it wasn't working while they were arguing about who to sign.

The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Re: Freedman out!
Never say never and all that, but its true that our Tony has been used to having a bit more to throw around than what he'd have here. Might have been little old stoke but to establish in the prem weren't they in the top 5 spenders or something ridiculous. Read this morning that having tied Jedanik down to a long term £40k pw deal last season (yeah that one people thought was coming to us), the dispute has been all about Palace not signing a succession of players in the £40k+ pw bracket. As ever the sheer madness of the PL arms race for avearge players bumps up against all sense.BWFC_Insane wrote:What chance would that be? Aye.
Zero chance with Tony and zero chance with Mourinho.
Throw in his houdini act and I'm sure he'll pick and choose.
Re: Freedman out!
Palace fan at work reckons it's because Pulls didn't want Zaha on loan as he doesn't like his attitude, and board overruled him. If so that's mental, to push out the manager who kept you up against all odds to take back on loan one of your old players.

I think it was more about control rather than the signing of Zaha per se. Seems so daft though. If he doesn't want a player so much that he's willing to walk, surely given what he did you say 'fine, we'll not sign him'.

The issue is they didn't buy the players he did want because they were too expensive.Prufrock wrote:I think that if it is due to Zaha then it's the straw that broke the camel's back rather than happy days > leaving in one fell swoop.malcd1 wrote:I think it was more about control rather than the signing of Zaha per se. Pulis doesn't like being denied funds.
He wanted assurances when he went there and I think even last season there were noises that he wasn't that happy with the backing.

Not according to the Palace fan I know. It's coz they wanted to sign Zaha and he doesn't.BWFC_Insane wrote:The issue is they didn't buy the players he did want because they were too expensive.Prufrock wrote:I think that if it is due to Zaha then it's the straw that broke the camel's back rather than happy days > leaving in one fell swoop.malcd1 wrote:I think it was more about control rather than the signing of Zaha per se. He did spend f*ck loads at Stoke, but that's not related to signing players he doesn't want.

Re: Freedman out!
I never rated him at Stoke. He made a Cup Final after some chumps bottled it, and had a Euro campaign, but never made the Prem top 10 and given his spending I'm not sure that's as great a record as some would have you think. Doesn't stand up to Big Sam's at ours.
Having said that what he achieved last season was astonishing, but he's not had a full season there. I'd snatch their hand s off in a swap for Dougie though! And I don't even like Pulis.

The market Allardyce exploited at our place doesn't exist anymore.LeverEnd wrote:I never rated him at Stoke. How does he stack up to Allardyce at West Ham? Pretty well I'd say.

Yeah, and yet again back here on planet earth, you don't just not take a job because a mate of yours had a bad experience f*cking years ago.
Lets be honest, if he really is friends with Gazza (and the idea alone stretches the parameters of plausability to breaking point already), then he probably knows that he's a bit of a chump.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: Freedman out!
Really? I'd imagine quite a few people wouldn't take a job on the basis a mate had had a bad experience at the same place. Not everyone, and probably not many at all when that job paid at least six figures annually, but I wouldn't completely rule it out.

Re: Freedman out!
i presented the link without comment
maybe tony p took the stoke job because gary m. told him they were good lads or whatever.
he'd probably say the same about bwfc , tbf .
so he'd have to make his own mind up, which off the link looks like he had then. looking at douglas already , he'll not see much difference to what went on then. imo
mourinho went from managing benfica to some middling team , seemingly to showcase himself , and he had the chance to come here when allardyce left. but its not unknown for someone to do that (manage a bobbins team after a top one)
tony p will end up at qpr or wherever

Re: Freedman out!
Well you can only exploit the market that is there at the time. And I agree about West Ham, good point. Mine remains that I don't believe he's all he's cracked up to be.BWFC_Insane wrote:The market Allardyce exploited at our place doesn't exist anymore.LeverEnd wrote:I never rated him at Stoke. Either way neither of those two is coming anywhere near us.

I was just comparing Pulis to Allardyce like for like with broadly equivalent spending budgets.LeverEnd wrote:Well you can only exploit the market that is there at the time. But I agree we might as well hope for Mourinho.
Re: Freedman out!
Broadly equivalent? There's no way Allardyce has the fourth highest net spend!
