I'd be looking for first teamers, rather than squaders up front. Or a first teamer, anyway. Rodallega at Wigan looks the part, especially in a better team. Not sure about Doyle et al.

Davo is getting older, Klasnic is a good supersub, Elmander may be on his way.

This may mean we need to spend big in the forward line, or pull a Sturridge out of a top-four shape hat. It would be great if we could (by any means) secure him for a further season. I suspect we have little chance.

Other than that its a central midfielder who has plenty of energy, and perhaps one addition to the back line. Other than the flotsam and jetsom of JOB etc, I'm not bothered if we keep the majority of the squad together. You can't replace everyone, and you have to prioritise.

So:
1 midfielder
1 defender
1 forward
1 high quality loan in the "forward areas"

Job done.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Just seen that David Nugent is out of contract at the end of the season. Can see Owen making him an offer.

As is "Hi David, It's Owen. Please could you fcuk off somewhere I'm not?"

You mean that sort of offer?

Or "Hi David, It's Owen. Robbie Blake is 90 this year, we'd be delighted to have you as his replacement to warm the bench"

Or this sort?

Was Blake brought in on a one year deal?
Anybody else wonder if he's being lined up for a coaching job rather than a playing role? We're were always hearing about his effect in the dressing room and he's got a coaching licence too I think.

WE've been 'linked' with the Korea striker at Marseille again according to Clubcall. £6m but may be less due to their potential relegation from Ligue 1
Pfffft.

Guys Arsenal fan here. I just saw a thread about Bolton player of the year and Holden and Robinson seems to be nr 1 and 2 players of your season. But pretty much every pundit says Cahill has been your best player and some have them in the team of the season. Serious question......how good is Cahill? Is he being overrated by the media or is he as good as I keep hearing. I have watched Bolton few times and he seems alright, but hasnt stood out. How much is a player of his ability worth?

Well, he's in contract, for a start, so worth becomes full value & not some reducing Bosman.

Worth is also determined by the number & wealth of the clubs chasing him. He seems to be viewed highly by a good bunch of vastly wealthy clubs.

In short, he's going no-where cheap.

We all saw your team last week & your central defence, at your level & aspiration, is dire. You need 2 new ones. Cahill could well fill one of the vacancies.

In my view an ideal pair include one elegant ball player and one hard, uncompromising b'stard. He fills the former. He is NOT the latter, by any stretch. He's also not a 'leader' in the Adams/Terry type.

But he's good. Good on the ball, good reader of the game ... so gets to the ball quickly because he's anticipated the move. His ability on the ball combined with this means he seems to have a lot of time. He doesn't seem to have that "one big mistake a match" so many have, which is a bonus.

So, he is good. He's not Beckenbaur ... but he's better than Upson, Lescott & any number of other bags of shite with a high number of caps. You'll need a minimum of £20 million. If an auction ensues, £25m. Given that Lescott went for God knows what he's worth even more, but that depends on the market.

One things sure ... he'll improve that shower you currently employ.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Thanks, but we have Vermaelen back who's an excellent ball playing defender. What we lack is a commanding leader who organise our defence, basically a Tony Adams

Well that's not Cahill.

By all means waste your money on him then, we'll get him back for half of it the year after.

Tho frankly I think he's some way better than Vermaelen.

He's ace. £20m's feck all to you lot, Chief, so let's be seeing it.

Seriously, he's a good footballer, but take a look at last season's stats. See how many clean sheets we kept with him in the side and how many we kept when he was out with his blood clot thingy!

He has these magnificent Bobby Moore moments, but isn't what you lot are looking for at all.
