Lots of new deals for B Team players. Including 2 years with another year option for the captain. Well done to him.

Connor Stanley released. Khumbeni new longish deal.

Interesting. I think Khumbeni needs to push towards first team this year.

We will once again be behind Plymouth in most queues this summer - especially for RWB.

Last season we lost out to them on central midfielders on the basis of money. This time it'll likely be money AND them being a division above.

So I suppose one question this summer will have to be, "Who don't Plymouth want?"

Given that Josh Key could sign for them and not even have to move house that might be a tricky one.

The bond has now raised £3.5M - that’s a lot!

New pitch is a million isn’t it? Or thereabouts.

Don’t know this as gospel but I had heard talk that the Swiss guys Lucock heads up are prepared to put in around about the same as the bond goal which is £3.5M. So that would be a considerable cash injection overall if true.

Wasn't that the stated target? If they were to get to £5m you'd imagine we might start to look at doing something more on the training ground side of things - rather than just the vital upkeep. A proper training ground these days can cost you £20m, but we could maybe finally get rid of the portacabins.

That's one hell of a whiteboard  does it come with coloured pens as well? :conf:
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!

And the key to a result is a good :kettle:

Ha. It's an interesting question. But the question also changes significantly for them.

I've written at length about how vital their loanees were. Well, of the six, four came from Championship clubs who previously wished them all the best; now they're deadly rivals. So they won't be re-borrowing 10-assist wingback Bali Mumba (Norridge), 12-goal thug Sam Cosgrove (Birmingham), Swansea winger Morgan Whittaker (9G 7A by January), or Sunderland's Jay Matete.

Of course, they could now attempt to buy them – although they've already publicly stated they'll have the division's lowest budget – and/or switch to borrowing Prem players. But that's a whole other shark-filled market....

I was wondering about Matete. Sunderland had one when they went up. Then Plymouth did. Seems to be in style.

Him, Camara and Butcher were the lads we apparently looked at and couldn't get.

Sunderland are looking at a promotion push next season and Matete could find himself surplus for many of the same reasons Morrell did at that level.

He has the most vital attributes that would attract us towards a Moxon or Maghoma, in terms of his press-resistance and ball carrying. I daresay even now he's out of our budget, though.

Season before that, he was at Grimsby as they went out the league. Maybe we can tempt him by offering him pictures of FA Cup victories before universal female suffrage… :)

I wonder if the investment from FV members and the fans bond will influence the strategy this summer. Will we prefer to put those investments into sellable assets rather than say paying loan fees or wages for borrowed players?

If you consider the fact we will need to pay this money back rather like a capital investment our playing investments likely in some cases need to appreciate in value.

Given the nature of football it’s not like you can bank on any one player so likely a spread across a portfolio of players anticipated to rise in value?

Yes. If we are going to spend a couple of million we will need to have assets to show for it. If all they are doing is throwing money at promotion with no other plan they're nuts.

Yes agreed. You have to hedge your bets and no doubt they will.

Which makes it a very interesting summer indeed.

I may be forgetting someone, but I think generally any time we've spent money it's been on a player of a decent age.

Dion, Vik, Morley, Dempsey, Toal...is that all of them? I think we paid some kind of minimal fee for Sads to cover costs, but I'm not sure he counts. Was Dempsey the oldest at 26?

I'm expecting to maybe see more of that 19-24 bracket. "Morley, but a tad better" should probably be the aim. I love Morley, but he's a way off Bannan and that ilk for now and was miles off when we first got him in.

I think our total transfer spending under Evatt is less than £1.5m, so this summer could eclipse all previous windows combined.

Randy Williams was acquired for a fee as well, but yeah wouldn’t have been massive.

Not sure we need to be throwing mega dosh at new signings. I quite like the smart recruitment we’ve been doing - Charles for £300k, Morley for £70k etc. Plymouth have shown that it’s possible to get promoted utilising free transfers and loans.

Big window this and I can’t wait to see what the recruitment team do. In the words of any new signing “I’m buzzing”.

I don't imagine we'll be seeing any Ipswich-style £1m fullbacks coming in, but I could see us spending half a million each on a couple of positions. Maybe more on the right attacker.

The issue with the lads we've paid for so far is we've mostly spent in January on expiring contracts. We've paid in advance to avoid the summer rush on free transfers.

This is a summer window and fees will reflect that. Accy wanted £1m for Dion in the summer before we got him. Dempsey was quoted at 500k. Vik we got because of a release clause, so his deal length didn't matter.

I am trying to ignore the bond, but I am delighted a local business is backing the club. Mr Tough Shit isn't going to care if his 250k never comes home. He's getting good mileage out of his relationship with the club.

I would love to see more local business step up. I'm amazed we've not been able to get anything going with AO yet.
