Doesnt mean we got the money left to spend on his wages! Centre midfield is done & dusted now.Choppers wrote:Forget everything else, from a footballing point of view...I'd be *gutted* if we weren't beating down his agent's door to sign him.
A free Owen, a FREE...
But he'd be the best midfielder in the team, easily imho.keveh wrote:We have a packed central midfield at the moment and there is no point paying big wages on somebody else to play there when we desperately need a striker!

That 7/1 on them going down is tempting
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
So if a player better than anyone else in his position (for us anyway) becomes available on a free, we shouldn't even bother trying to see if he's interested?ohjimmyjimmy wrote:Doesnt mean we got the money left to spend on his wages! So we've still no wide cover and spunked more money on another CM?

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
'free' does not account for the millions and millions in wages he will want & will get somewhere.
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Owen said he wanted a bigger squad, and a player who would walk into our first team is available on a free. We don't know what his wage demands would be, or if he'd take a wage cut to play for us.
I'm not saying we break the bank, I'm saying we at *least* enquire, and do what we can. If his wage demands are too much, then fair play.

feck signing strikers, lets just have a team of great midfielders. 4-6-0 will do just fine.

Sweet fancy moses, i need a drink.
Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
Surely Coyle wont lower himself to signing someone who has been banged up for GBH.
Not going to happen. Coyle is to principled for that.
Barton is a bellhead Full stop, and i don't care how much football ability he has, rather stick with Mumba

Barton will be looking for north of 60k a week and have a selection of big clubs in for him.
My guess is he'll end up at Everton. He's a boyhood fan, they need a big marquee signing and have no money. They probably would stump up wages for him to appease the fans though.
If we hadn't signed a selection of midfielders then it might be worth the risk, he is a quality player off the field stuff aside.
We've only got so much money to go around, and that needs to be spent on a striker or two.

As in "Hello Alan, it's Owen. Is it true Joey Barton's still a complete tw@t?"Choppers wrote:I'm saying we at *least* enquire
"Hi Owen, good to hear from you. Yes he is. That's why he's on a free."
That sort of enquiry?

Hate to be the sort of club where Barton is considered to be a 'marquee' signing.

And won't be short of people who'll be willing to pay it him either.jimbo_bwfc wrote:Barton will be looking for north of 60k a week and have a selection of big clubs in for him.

Are you sure? Not many can afford that.
Arsenal - face wouldn't fit
Filth - don't need him
City - don't need him
Chelsea - he's not foreign
Spuds - has 'Arry called him 'triffic' yet?
The only people stupid enough to offer him that money would be Newcas.....oh

I'm not sure too many clubs will be happily offering 60,000 a week to him...but there we go.
Spurs possibly, but only if Modric goes I guess.

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
The last time Everton spent over 1M on a transfer fee was August 2009 with Johnny Heitinga, two years ago now, in the last three transfer windows the most they've paid is high six figures for Magaye Gueye and the only signing of any first team significance was a then League One striker. Joey Barton would be a huge signing for them.Lofthouse Lower wrote:Hate to be the sort of club where Barton is considered to be a 'marquee' signing.

I meant marquee in more of a 'wow' sense than purely financial.
Anyway, that bollock-faced clown Moyes is forever jabbering on about Everton being skint, can't see them paying that much per week for him - less they sell that overrated buffoon Jagielka first.

For Barton if he wants £60k+ you're not talking the very top but the next level down. So people with money... Villa, Sunderland, erm, Liverpool. Clubs with money who want to splash the cash in the hope of getting close to the CL.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

I could see Sunnerlan doing it just to spite Newcastle...
