The last time Everton spent over 1M on a transfer fee was August 2009 with Johnny Heitinga, two years ago now, in the last three transfer windows the most they've paid is high six figures for Magaye Gueye and the only signing of any first team significance was a then League One striker. Joey Barton would be a huge signing for them.
Probably would be a big signing for them, but the year they bought Heitinga, they also bought Bilywhatever @ £9m, the year after shelling out £15m on Felliani (both midfielders). They probably reckon they'd no need to spend much since.

Isn't ours Reo-Coker? Incidentally I suppose it was assumed by many (including me) that he'd want too much in wages and have better options.

I don't think it'll happen for a variety of reasons, but I do think he'd be ideal for us on the right. Reo-Coker and Muamba might retire through exhaustion if they spend a season covering for Petrov and Weiss/SWP/Eagles.

As on the previous page, I don't consider 'marquee' to refer to that kind of deal.

Anelka is a 'marquee' signing
Reo Coker/Barton isn't

He mentioned Lee in a twitter post....

"Just seen that Lee from Bolton has broken his leg, such a shame, good player he is. Hope he makes a speedy recovery"

I honestly would take him in our squad can play anywhere in the midfield and I truely believe that he's trying to put the days of being a c*nt behind him and with a manager like Owen backing him up I think he'd be a real asset to our squad!

Not going to happen. Coyle is to principled for that.

Barton is a bellhead Full stop, and i don't care how much football ability he has, rather stick with Mumba
What a load of shite. Your picture suits you.

We dont need Barton. He is neither a winger nor a forward nor a central defender.

IS Cameron Jerome the most wanted striker in England?

Anyway, Barton, yes I'd have him...he's sorted himself out a bit at toon, though maybe needs to watch his twitter I guess. For free as well? Deffo. Do we need him? Well he would be our best fit midfield come QPR so in that respect yes....he can play right wing, though he's more effective centre mid. I can't see it though - we wont be able to match what someone else can offer him.

As for the others well SWP or Weiss would be a step up on well no-one - we need to sign a player for that role. We can't 'go with what we've got' this time round I'm afraid. Ideally sign 'em up before QPR away, but I fear that will be too soon....unfortunately we want to pay bottom dollar, and it will pay off in the end and save us a few quid, but it means we cant be choosy about who (to a certain degree) and when they sign.

That front line scares the life out of me. You could pull two blokes from the queue for a pint at half time and they'd out pace them.

One other thing about Barton.....he has a bit of fecking bite and character about him....not the kind of player to go hiding in say a cup semi final, like 10 of our lot did...we need some of that character more than most things. We should deffo have a go, try and sell him the Coyle philosophy or whatever, see if he values that more than a bit of cash.

Barton is not what we need right now. RW and striker are the priority

Sporting Lisbon seem to be signing every attacking player under the sun these days.

I know they've signed Bojinov, Van Wolfswinkel and Capel. Capel was quality value at like 3M.
