Sporting Lisbon seem to be signing every attacking player under the sun these days.

Who else have they signed out of interest jmjhb?

As far as strikers/attacking midfielders go: Bojinov, Diego Capel, van Wolfswinkel, Rubio (Chilean player), Carrillo (Peruvian player), Luis Aguiar (Uruguayan player). This is in addition to Izmailov, Djalo, Postiga and Matias Fernandez who can play in advanced positions too.

Aren't they meant to be getting Bendtner as well? Crazy

I know they've signed Bojinov, Van Wolfswinkel and Capel. Capel was quality value at like 3M.

Capel is just a speed merchant these days, has hardly any end product. Might have stagnated at Sevilla, mind you, so a move away might be beneficial.

He can't play on the bloody wing, I'd rather have Weiss back.

We have a packed central midfield at the moment and there is no point paying big wages on somebody else to play there when we desperately need a striker!

Have we? I'll reserve judgment until I've seen at first hand
as to whether or not any of any of the current five play better, or deliver better set-pieces, than Barton.

The only common denominator of the fans of clubs that NRC played for seems to be "he put in a shift". Mans got an engine. And has been known to use it.

The point you make is moot though, as we have 3 strikers in their thrities, and two wide players.

If we had the money to beef those areas up and sign Barton, then absolutely, go to it. But I very much doubt we have. So the choice becomes (with the wages he'll want) Barton or striker(s) and possibly winger (loan).

Firstly, I'm yet to read anywhere that NRC is famed for 'putting in a shift', Villa fans that I know call him a lazy c*nt. However, even if he is good for 'putting in a shift', so was David Reeves, Warren Joyce, Gavin McCann and the likes. Barton's famed for not only 'putting in a shift' but also for delivering an expert ball.

I'd have Barton at our place in a shot. It's for Coyle and for his management ability to be able to keep him in check.

Swap them? Yes. He's released Barton for feck all despite him having a year left on his contract, and didn't attempt to sign Reo-Coker despite him being available for nowt. Yes, perhaps I should ask if he'll swap them.

NRC barely proven? Villa captain for 3 months last year, lots of prem experience. And Coyle hasn't signed these lads for fun, it's because he thinks they are good players. Barton not needed given out lack of options in other areas!

Meanwhile, Bolton manager Owen Coyle was quizzed on whether he would like to bring Barton to the Reebok and while he confirmed the midfielder is a talent, he stopped short on confirming his intent.

"He's a very talented player. We know that," Coyle told Sky Sports News.

"There's no doubt Joey will have very attractive offers because he's a talented player.

"We'll continue to bring the right players to football club. Hopefully I can have one or two new faces, ideally before the QPR game, but certainly before the end of the transfer window.

"Every manager is in the same boat. We're trying to improve our squads and trying to do the best business we can for our clubs."
