He could easily have said "I know Alan has to give an opinion, but Zat is an honest lad who gives his all for the club and yes like everyone makes mistakes, but he has my full backing and he'll make an important contribution to the group for the remanining games".thebish wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:

Coyle (given his own comments in the past and given he keeps dropping him) can't come on and say Knight is an awesome player pushing for England selection - so he does the next best thing - and slagging Shearer will be seen by Knight as some kind of defense/support. It's really not that difficult.
That would be backing the player without having to spin a long tale.
As it was he just told the world that it was wrong for a pundit to have an opinion about a specific player.
And my opinion is that managers should always back their players in public and never criticise individuals, thats for behind closed doors. Coyle has chosen to do that several times, which for me is always a bad sign, but as you say he knows the players best, so I'll leave that alone. My bigger issue is that he's critical of a pundit for doing the same, and I just find that hypocritical when he's named and shamed players for individual mistakes himself this season.

I know - you already told us that. I happen to disagree with you - I guess, hard as it is, you'll have to live with the idea that there might be a view different to your own...BWFC_Insane wrote: My bigger issue is that he's critical of a pundit for doing the same, and I just find that hypocritical when he's named and shamed players for individual mistakes himself this season.
my opinion being - Coyle is just using Shearer to give the impression of backing Knight without having to say Knight is a fantastic player... Coyle does not seriously expect Shearer - or any pundit - NOT to slag players, on a show where he is a paid to have opinions, for mistakes made. (FACT)
