Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
Yeah, I said something similar about Gordon earlier in this thread I think. Having watched him for the Daggers a couple of times, you can see why League clubs might go in for him if we don't keep him. I think I said earlier that most of us have no expectations of him coming good after his initial showing, but he has the physical and technical attributes to play league football. It's whether he has the right mentality, the confidence and brain for the game. Even when flying at Dagenham there were times when he lost the ball and looked like recovering it was the biggest chore in the world. In non-league his pace got him out of that second or two of "I can't be arsed here", but in the league he'd have been done. There are other issues that can be coached, but he either wants it enough or he doesn't - he can't go through the motions.

Iles’ write-up of the Clark rumour says of John: “negotiations are understood to be positive. John has several other options on the table but is said to be seriously considering coming back to the UniBol.” Of Liam Gordon: “it is hoped he can progress with the Whites this season.”

Yeah. So with John it's money and with Gordon it's seeing if he's got his head straight.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 8:51 pmIles’ write-up of the Clark rumour says of John: “negotiations are understood to be positive. More on Harry Anderson from my son-in-law who's a died in the wool Imps fan. Not completely sure if the link between us and Anderson is genuine but it's summer and something to chat about
Harry Anderson - not one Imps supporter isn't gutted to see him go. The outpouring on social media is like nothing we've ever seen before. This is a lad who in 5 years has more winners medals than just about anybody in our history (joint with Matt Rhead). Off the pitch he's a lovely, approachable lad. On the pitch Harry has that one quality all supporters look for, he always gives 110%. He's not a tricky winger but he's quick...very quick. Good strength and a decent delivery on him. With him on the pitch there's always a chance of something happening from nothing. We're very sad to see him go but also it wasn't a surprise as his game time had become sporadic under Appleton, preferring Brennan Johnson (future prem star) or Anthony Scully (Ireland U21) on the right hand side. Harry's game is slightly different to those two as Harry likes the wide areas opposed to coming inside.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
Thanks, Sonic. To be clear, there's no "link" per se, I just mentioned him as he's one of the dozens of freebies available, but perhaps more suitable than most. (I'm not too proud to take Lincoln's cast-offs, very far from it, and I would expect Evatt isn't either.)sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 10:05 amMore on Harry Anderson from my son-in-law who's a died in the wool Imps fan. So that's
I'm aware it's the opinion of someone who understandably loves the lad, but he sounds worthy of consideration. The lack of trickery doesn't strike me as a particular problem: I feel Evatt wants teamwork rather than individualism. What might be less suitable is the implication he likes to keep chalk on his boots rather than cutting inside – our plan is more pass-and-move than "hit the by-line and hit the big man" - but we'll see.
In essence he sounds a bit like Isgrove, and while back in January that might not have seemed ideal, we've seen how useful that can be. But that brings us to the other potential problem: we've got Isgrove and arguably Politic, so is another body necessary? My gut says yes – Izzy can be erratic in production if not workrate, and we've no idea how much Dennis will be involved (or if he'll play at 10) - but I'm not the one working to limits of budget and squad space.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
"He sounds like Isgrove" was exactly my reaction too.
I certainly think we need more bodies in those areas. For the front 4 we currently have (I think):
Sarc, Delf, Dapo, Isgrove, Politic, Doyle.
I personally would be looking to shift Delf on (though Evatt mightn't be) and we have no idea how Politic will come back. But even with both of those we need 2 if not 3. One probably needs to be a 9.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
Sign me up for another of the "sounds like Isgrove" tickets, but from having watched him a bit yesterday (out of interest) he looks a bigger unit.
He doesn't look the sort to get us out of this division, though. If Evatt seriously rates Politic (and thinks Dennis is now recovered) and thinks he and Dapo can improve enough to take us up, then a player like Anderson makes sense. He has enough about him to be a threat, can play on both flanks and looks a good sort to have in the dressing room. If Evatt thinks he needs better than we have already (so we can go straight up) then I'd say the lad is unlikely to be that.
I still think we need to be looking to try and get players in who, even if they are down in the lower leagues for a reason, have the potential to be too good for this division.

You'd hope that if Sheehan was having a medical last Friday and Saturday then he'd be in today. As Worthy said, if you have been given the nod by someone who knows then fair play to you.brommers95 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 12:59 pmI feel like there'll be a signing or two announced tonight...

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
I've had a quick look and I couldn't find the info, so I thought I'd ask you wise chaps. At what point can we actually sign a player for a fee? I know we have close to 4mil in repayments coming due and we need to have various things signed off to be officially out of the embargo, but do we know what date on the calendar we are talking about? I'm not saying we are going to go and splash cash on players, I'm just wondering about the technicalities of it all.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
I honestly don't think anyone can tell you. These rules aren't written down and some people claim there is no transfer embargo as a penalty for administration. Nobody seems to know or go on the record to confirm the details. Wigan for example are being linked with players for fees. Yet were in admin not that long ago. So its not clear.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 3:06 pmI've had a quick look and I couldn't find the info, so I thought I'd ask you wise chaps. A good and pertinent question. The two-year embargo was levied in May 2019, so it should have lapsed, although it will be subject toGhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 3:06 pmI've had a quick look and I couldn't find the info, so I thought I'd ask you wise chaps. (1) satisfying various criteria (eg paying debts)
(2) possibly an EFL meeting; not an EGM or anything like that, but official clearance.
The last bit's the worry. EFL hasn't even decided how many players each club is allowed to register, so God knows when they'll get round to the admin of freeing us up.

Aye. Not quite the high-profile f*cktastrophe of the Shaun Harvey era, just a return to traditional values of lower-level, background, incognito inefficiency and absent wherewithal.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 3:24 pmOmnishambles then, as usual.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 3:16 pmso God knows when they'll get round to the admin of freeing us up.

It just struck me as worth knowing after listening to Evatt say we are at a point now where we are constrained by the wage caps - rather than being broke. If the finances are now there to stretch our wings a small amount, delays will matter.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 3:34 pmAye. I think he's talking the standard wage caps applied in lowest two leagues based on turnover....GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 3:52 pmIt just struck me as worth knowing after listening to Evatt say we are at a point now where we are constrained by the wage caps - rather than being broke. Looks like we’ve signed a Welshman. Not clear who yet though…
