Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
However it might have been described in the past, retention of the sell on clause is the interpretation that seems to make most sense. Lets hope it happens.The_Gun wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 11:24 amKen stated that they had cashed in the appearances fee but retained a significant sell on clause. Maybe he wasn't telling the truth, or maybe this changed at a later date, but if that is correct as of today, then Arsenal selling Holding could be quite a big deal for us.Gudnib wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 10:53 amSorry I hadn't read that article. I must confess that I've read and heard so much twaddle from Iles that I don't always read what he writes any longer.

Doesn't sound like Politic coming back features very highly on Evatt's radar at the moment, from quotes today, there'd have to be a whole new pandemic

Makes sense. We have Darcy back and we are looking at incoming players. If we recall Dennis and get these new lads in that's a very bloated squad in some areas.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 2:38 pmDoesn't sound like Politic coming back features very highly on Evatt's radar at the moment, from quotes today, there'd have to be a whole new pandemic
I'm the same on Politic as I am Darcy. I want to see them in a Wanderers shirt, but I don't think either is the answer to our current issues. Both have the ability to be League players, Politic probably already is of that level. I'd take Dennis as competition at 10 or wide, but like Darcy he needs to be playing.
If he signs his extension and gets a full half season starting for Vale then next season he's a real asset.

Irish press are 100% that Eoin is in Ireland to sign for Pats. Pats have said they will announce a deal for "a new player" imminently.

Can't see how we'd be in line for anything for Phillips. His dad released him from the academy so that he could take up a US scholarship.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 11:11 pmNat Phillips and Rob Holding have both been linked with moves. Do we have any clauses related to those two that would benefit us?
Couple of days later he was at Liverpool.

You'd hope this means that we have another striker confirmed then.KeyserSoze wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 3:12 pmanytime this afternoon probably...GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 3:10 pmIrish press are 100% that Eoin is in Ireland to sign for Pats. Solidarity payments are supposed to cover all clubs involved in professional development. Clubs will often agree terms in private over fixed amounts to avoid arbitration.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 3:16 pmCan't see how we'd be in line for anything for Phillips. So you have negotiated sell on fees, but that's not the only way development clubs can make money off future transfers.
It's a long time since I was keeping track of the regs, though.

Regardless, we owe Eoin a debt of gratitude. His goals helped dig us out of League One. Delighted for him if he gets to finish his career in Ireland as he hoped.

Evatt probably still has that hat trick he scored in the charity match at the back of his mind, though he’s given up the number 10’shirtWorthy4England wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 3:26 pmYou'd hope another striker, aye, with the possibility Charles gets some sorta ban...

I expect us to sign another forward this window if Doyle goes. Any news on Kachunga's injury? If he's fit and Baka fit it might not be immediate.

A new name for the mix: Aberdeen midfielder Dean Campbell. Source is Football Insider, so don't get too excited.
“Bolton Wanderers, Forest Green and Port Vale have made moves to sign Aberdeen midfielder Dean Campbell this month, Football Insider understands. The 20-year-old has made over 70 first-team appearances for the Dons but the club are happy to loan him out to get regular first-team action. A recruitment source has told Football Insider that English trio Bolton, Forest Green and Port Vale have made enquiries about potentially signing Campbell.”
Scotland U19 cap. Has apparently played 12 times for Aberdeen this season, at left back, left midfield and defensive mid.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
If we are letting Doyle go then my expectation remains the same. Evatt needs to start winning games. And a few injuries and bans that I anticipate now won’t be an excuse.
It absolutely makes sense to let Doyle go if we have a better replacement lined up. But if it’s a Sarce situation again then Evatt has to face up to winning games potentially with Delf up front our only option. And as it would be down to his decisions I’d not cut any slack.

Dean Campbell is a talented young footballer.
Evatt will have to take any criticism coming his way if we get rid of players without signing replacements.,

Freddie Ladapo has handed in a transfer request at Rotherham. Yes please!

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
His contract's up in summer.... but the club has a 12-month extension clause. You suspect Ladapo (who's 28 until he's 29, which happens on 1st Feb) wants to move to the second tier.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 4:47 pmFreddie Ladapo has handed in a transfer request at Rotherham. Fun Fact 1: the Romford-born striker has played for 16 different clubs, the vast majority of them (barring Rotherham, former loan club Oldham, and other former loan club Shrewsbury) being Darn Sarf.
Fun Fact 2: he was released by Southend in 2018, picked up by third-tier Plymouth, scored 19 goals in a season and thus prompted Rotherham to break their transfer record (£500k). So next time you hear someone say "What use is this Southend [or whomever] reject?"...

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
I'd mostly suspect he'll go where the money is. He'll want to avoid staying on Rotherham money for another 18 months and this will be his last big contract. January is a good time to get an additional 10-20% from a club in need of a striker.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 5:04 pmYou suspect Ladapo (who's 28 until he's 29, which happens on 1st Feb) wants to move to the second tier.
If a Championship club wants him all the better, especially one down south.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Are Reading still paying 215% (or whatever it was) wages to turnover? Fourth bottom, 3pts above the dots. Just below them are Peterborough, but I doubt Gobshite Darragh will pay much more than Rotherham money.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 5:17 pmI'd mostly suspect he'll go where the money is. Cardiff, 5th bottom, might be a shout; they were "linked" in summer, but Paul Warne has said they haven't had a single offer for him at any point in his 2.5yr Rotherham stay, which might explain why his agent has requested a transfer – to which Warne has said "I'm not trying to be funny here, but I've not really heard of a transfer request in the last 20 years. I didn't know players still did that."
