That line does I'll grant you... the rest of the quote doesn't...
I don't think anyone ever said we were rolling in it... more we have got money to spend realistaclly on targets..."Football has got more difficult. Gone are the days when everyone had the same amount of money and it was a level playing field. But you can still have success in cup competitions and improve your league position. That is what you have to do."

He means we don't have 20M to just go and match asking prices for whoever we want. Its quite clear and has been since we came back into the league that we can't compete financially with half the clubs in this division.BL3 wrote:http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011 ... fer-window

I doubt he's making it up, would look a bit stupid if as claimed Gartside is following him. What you're getting is almost live reporting of our transfers, so its bound to be that we may be after a really decent player but it just fizzles out eventually. I've no doubt that there is truth in it, I've also no doubt that he loves causing the intrigue and guessing games it was his method on the Rovers forum!boltonboris wrote:Precisely.. Since when have tabloid hacks, been hesitant to link names with clubs! Sounds like he's making stuff up to get a few people to follow him!BWFC_Insane wrote:Its not Anelka as he's played for us already, and the player in question hasn't. No way will Wolves sell Doyle, and I'd not call him a crowd pleaser either!wanderers_on_tour wrote:I hope its Anelka, or Doyle. Some of the other players mentioned wouldn't really improve us that much.
Lets not get too worked up about this guy, if its not even "printable" yet probably means it won't happen!

Aye one line where from an article where he's talking about buying strikers. Hardly points to "no money" being available.Lord Kangana wrote:Its in the paper.BWFC_Insane wrote:He means we don't have 20M to just go and match asking prices for whoever we want. He's also said over the weekend that if we can bring in the striker/s he wants that our net profit this summer will turn into net spend!
Nobody has ever claimed we can compete with the big money teams in this league or that we have bucketloads to spend, but there is money there to spend, which is why we're getting the chance to talk to SWP this week. Whether we can sort out wages is a different matter.

But we've just shed bucketloads off the wage bill, and are £4.45m up on transfer dealings.
How the hell would wages be an obstacle?

Because if new boy wants x amount... All the old boys'll want the same, before you know it, you've got an average midfielder clearing 50% more than he was last year.Lord Kangana wrote:But we've just shed bucketloads off the wage bill, and are £4.45m up on transfer dealings.

Re: TKIZ's impossibly brilliant all new Transfer Rumours thr
We've just shed the wages of AL Habsi, Elmander, Sturridge, Taylor and JLS. Theres no need really to mention other leavers, because those 5 would have been amongst our very top earners.
We've got plenty of room on the wage bill if its going to be the same as last years.

Which would mean we could compete financially with the other half. Right now I'd take that!BWFC_Insane wrote:

Course we have.. Doesn't mean we can afford to give new boys top contractsLord Kangana wrote:We've just shed the wages of AL Habsi, Elmander, Sturridge, Taylor and JLS. Theres no need really to mention other leavers, because those 5 would have been amongst our very top earners.

Plus, Gartside has long spoken about the need to reduce the wagebill. Not maintain it
